My wife had a 6 mo old pit when I met her and over the 13 years we had that dog, I complained about her all the time. She was a good dog, and only had a few annoying quirks. Her last couple days got progressively rough quickly. She lost nearly all sight, and couldn’t hold her bladder. When the day came to have her put down she could no longer stand, and I ugly cried in the parking lot afterwards. Snot bubbles and all. My condolences.

ND Mike So sorry. It’s amazing how much of our hearts they take when they go.

Lost my dog Moxie yesterday. She appears to have died peacefully while she was sleeping. She was 9 1/2 years old and half Lab/half German shorthair. She was the best hunter and dog I have had. They take a big piece of your heart with them when they go. The two pics are when she was a pup and the other one is from about two weeks ago.

ND Mike Really sorry to hear, personally have been through this, very hard but still have my memories over thirty years of dog ownership. Eventually you will remember all the great times.

ND Mike Im so sorry man, hardest days. When we first got Brutus I would joke around that I would get rid of him if it would even please Riggins a little bit. 2 years go by and when a vet dared to ask me if they “lost” him on the surgery if we wanted them to resuscitate him and I told the vet I’d burn down his office if he killed my dog. There is something deeply primal about our relationships with our dogs. I don’t have kids, in some ways my dogs are my kids and when it is “that time” with Riggins I am sure I will be a puddle for weeks.

Jonathon I believe you are right about the connection with dog and man. It is still pretty tough but we are getting through it. I have her ashes on my counter right now. I will be putting together a little memorial that will go on our mantle above the fireplace. Thanks again everyone for the kind words. I know from this group that they were all heartfelt words!

ND Mike We have four cremated in all as well. Our 2 wolfhounds. Our lab shepherd mix who and her companion cat who were put down together, so they share the same box. It was ironic their time came together. We spread some of their ashes at their favorite spots as well.

Jonathon We don’t have kids either and some people don’t understand the attachment we have with our dogs. When I lost one someone said what’s the problem it was just a dog, he was lucky that a very good friend of mine was there and walked the guy away or he would have found out what the big deal was.

                                        Departing Contestant Powerful!

I know with my dog, I call her my daughter because I think she loves me more than my own, LOL, I get total love, total acceptance, total loyalty, and total forgiveness. I know of only one other place to find that, but we’ll not get into spiritual relationships.

I have not gone through a loss of a dear pet, but I can only imagine how difficult it will be.
