My brother just stopped in while I was replying and showed him your mount.
Question, he has a 30 year old mount. Any effective way to clean it up? Says it’s looking pretty dingy. He’s also a long time smoker which probably contributes. Thanks. -
cdavis wow that surely is a nicely done mount! I like that upright looking sideways pose the best too. It adds a lot of action, to me, and also gives you more positioning options in a room! Great work you do, congrats!

Question, he has a 30 year old mount. Any effective way to clean it up? Says it’s looking pretty dingy. He’s also a long time smoker which probably contributes. Thanks.PapaSop I would love to do a mount for you. The best way I have found to clean up an old mount is to first blow it off good with a compressor then scrub it with a good brush and warm soapy water. I use dawn dish soap because it is a good bug proofer. Then a quick blow dry. Then I use old English furniture polish in an airesol can to spray down the hair. Let it set a few minutes to put oil back in the hair then wipe it down with a rag or paper towel. Then I wipe down the horns with liquid old English furniture polish to put some oil back in the horns. It’s a little work but if people would do this once a year their mounts would stay beautiful. If this is done once a year you can skip the soapy water scrub and blow drying. Hope this helps. Have a great evening.

cdavis same, I’ve heard several theories as to why. 15 years ago, when I was a boy hunting with my older brother, it was nothing to get your two birds in a single day and on your first attempt usually. Now it’s a struggle just finding one bird all season. Numbers seem way low here in SC Kansas. Groups are small too. The most I’ve seen together has been 6 or 7. Typically just 2-3 per group is what I’ve been observing the past couple of years.

RafterW it’s a shame. We lost our quail population about 15 years ago. I sure hope that’s not happening to our turkeys.

Our Turkey season started today in Wi (we drew the last season) and got this bird this morning. 18 pounds, 9" beard.
