Good quality lighting over your work areas.

processhead this is an excellent point! I’ve worked in a few shops with poor lighting, it’s no fun. I will have led strip lights directly over the tables, grinder and saw. I also have 2 windows, roughly 24"x30" each. Hopefully, no shadows to deal with lol.

All the suggestions are wonderful and very useful, so I will say that you really need to pay special attention to all the recommendations because they are all useful and profitable in the long run.

My little shop is in the final stages of being built. What would you make sure to include in a dedicated processing room? What do you use the most that might be overlooked? Or what would you do differently next time?

Deepwoodsbutcher might sound dumb, but good locks on the door and maybe a security camera or two. I know that dont help make good sausage, but it’s hard to make good sausage if your stuff gets stolen. I wish you the best, I’m sure it will be great for you. I cant wait to see picks of the finished room

hey vegetarians, my food poops on your food!

kyle Not dumb at all! Definitely, will make sure to do this. Especially, since it’s a trailer build. Don’t need anyone just towing it away lol.

Go with the best you can afford . Someday the task will be larger than you first planned and you will be happy you have the equipment to get it done.

Can you describe the trailer you will be using for your shop?
Are you building the shop around an empty trailer shell?

Any idea what the gross load rating of your bed is? You will start accumulating weight in a hurry when you start filling it with equipment + the weight of the structure.

Have you taken an inventory what you plan on putting inside?

On the other hand, if it stays in one spot, you could put it on blocks and have added capacity.

processhead no weight issues with it at all. Heaviest equipment is the bandsaw which we move around with a hand truck. The floor under it is reinforced and the trailer does sit on blocks when not being moved. It is 2x4 framed with foam walls and a light weight exterior paneling. We can tow it with my old Trailblazer. It was built with much consideration to towing. The dimensions and weight do not exceed any limits to us legally pulling it down the road. That being said, we have no plans to actually take it anywhere, but if we need to we can.

My little shop is in the final stages of being built. What would you make sure to include in a dedicated processing room? What do you use the most that might be overlooked? Or what would you do differently next time?
