I made some ham and beans with cornbread for dinner. I actually started the night before last after cutting up a few pork shoulders to make sausage with. I put the bones in a stock pot with water and simmered it overnight to make bone broth.

The wife said it was one of the best batches I’ve made. That bone broth from the pork shoulder definitely makes a big difference. Its right up there with using a ham bone.

Saw the pic above about stuffed cabbage/pigs in a blanket/golumpki and felt like having it. Went to work and someone was talking about it and the next day someone had it for lunch. Took that as a sign and made some of my own today.

GWG8541 Now that really looks heart warming. We are still working on our pork roast with Kale & Barley. Margaret did it all by herself this time in a big pot instead of the crock pot & boy is it DEEEEEEEElicious! No photos though…

Surg nice looking pigs. Our family has never put red sauce on them when cooking them. The last batch I made I did put some of my homemade pizza sauce on them on my plate and was pretty good. We use wild rice in ours, what do you use

kyle honestly this go round I just used boil-in-bag white rice. I usually put bacon on top as well but didn’t have it this time. Not too traditional but makes it taste good as h3ll.

GWG8541 Great looking ham and beans. I have a couple ham bones in the freezer, so think I’ll give you method a try. The cornbread looks fantastic. Love it in cast iron.

kyle its pretty easy. I’ve seen it made many ways with various recipes. Like most food and drink it comes down to personal preference. I prefer plain corn bread for soups and stews without adding other ingredients like jalapenos and or cheese. I do like adding stuff if it is more of a side to be eaten on its own. My biggest personal preference is making it in a CI skillet vs a baking dish. I prefer the nice browned crust instead of the cake like texture. If you like ill send the recipe I use.

We used to make corn bread in a cast iron which had small corn ear shapes molded into it.
Got some of that crust and was great for plating

glen those CI little corn molds are great too. They are also convenient if you are making them for get togethers and want individual portions. That is one piece of CI my Mom had that I don’t have. I believe my sister wanted it for a wall decoration.
