I am wondering if part of the inconsistency that different folks experience when uploading pictures might have to do with their camera pixel resolution setting? Newer phones can take some very high resolution pictures with accompanying huge file sizes.
If you reset the photo resolution setting of your phone camera to something smaller, perhaps Meatgistics can deal with the photos without all the weird results? -

Tex_77 1st, dont be ridiculous, Brutus is a 186 lb killing machine, who hides from loud noises like trucks, pots dropping and is also afraid of sewers and for sale signs. Riggins was a fighting dog before we got him so he deserves to be soft if he wants now!
Okay, Rachel has the upvote button disappearing when you have already clicked it, we toyed with it being highlighted in yellow but it didn’t look very good, so disappears when you upvote, then if you downvote it by mistake or something the upvote reappears and the downvote disappears. So, anyone see any questions on this in the next few weeks/months be sure to let them know what it means.
Jonathon Nice mod with the thumbing thingy! I have a mod on my website that I manage for “Auto Rotate and Resize” that has worked wonders for me. Maybe your site has something like it too?

processhead That is absolutely part of it, some images I take on my phone at 8MB but NodeBB has a setting to auto downgrade the size/quality of the image to lower the file size. We just can’t seem to get it working at the moment. We are going to explore more options and a plug-in that might work. @Rgros is our Web coordinator, she is eventually going to be responsible for the waltons.com, currently, she is helping Austin and I get things set up and then we will turn it over to her. I don’t know how much she will be on Meatgistics other than to fix things and install new things for us but she is way better at all that stuff than I am already!

Jonathon I like the new thumbs up/down change and appreciate the upgrades/changes the Walton’s team is making.

OK, I think it is working right now. Must have needed a little time for system to completely click in.

It is still wonky. Like this post and see it go 0 > 1. Then Dislike and it jumps to -1.

I’m close to making the images a little better, it wont be perfect but it will be at least better. Ive got it sort of working on the dev site and hopefully we can get it working on the live site as well. It’s still got the hard cap at a certain point but by increasing that and rescaling them automatically we are able to post larger images. When we finally get it all done I will share with you.

Jonathon Darn it. I hit the UP thumb and it disappeared. Yep, wonky is a good word.

I think that is expected behavior. No Thumbs-Up means you pressed it. Where it gets wonky is if you click Thumbs-down to “undo” your upvote as it seems to subtract 2 from the count, not 1.

Okay, for images we think we have a “fix” for what has been happening. There is obviously a sweet spot between the size of the files and the quality of the image that is posted. We have upped the allowable file size but also increased the amount that those images are going to be scaled down to try to find a happy balance. We have done some testing with it and are happy with the results but we won’t really know the results until we have seen what happens when you guys post. I am going to call this “good” for now, and we will monitor the situation. Power-User Regular-Contributors Veteran Yearling Old-Timer If anyone has an issue with this please tag myself and Austin and then also post on this thread. We will review the issue and see what else can be done.
BUT for now, it looks like you guys should be able to post 90% of all cell phone pictures directly to Meatgistics without having to edit it on your phone first!

Jonathon That’s great news! I changed the aspect ratio on my phone recently and that seemed to really help with keeping the file size down!

Hey guys… I for was having one heck of a time with suppling pics to my POSTS for quite a while. Then, ‘someone’, and I forget just who it was, identified ‘the problem’… it was my iPhone and the way ‘Apple’ chooses to ‘optimize’ the pics. He directed me to the solution…
Go into your ‘Settings’…
Go to ‘Camera’…
Go to ‘Format’…
Then change from Apple’s ‘High Efficiency’ setting to the ‘Most Compatible’ settingAfter making this very simple change, I have had absolutely NO issues at all in up loading any ‘new’ pics I take with my phone and placing them in a POST.
I will tell you that I upload pics one at a time JUST so as not to overwhelm whatever these ‘server brains’ (something I have no knowledge about nor do I want to even understand) can handle.
I hope this might help you and anyone else out there using iPhones…
Thank You again to whoever it was that ‘figured’ out this solution!
Keep Up the good work…

Jonathon Keep on with the “feel good” tweaks. I’ve always found it grueling to help the “not so electronically gifted” on any platform or app and sat back saying “Seriously or Really” a bunch.

Jonathon that is good news!

Very nice on the photos! Was getting tired of emailing them to myself and dealing with posting from my PC vs phone.

Jonathon Jonathon, I know that is fantastic news for a lot of the folks that use their mobile phones. Great Job & thank you. Of course, I am still an old Dinasaur, so for the record, reducing photos to 60% works across the board in all ways from the PC.

Thanks guys, quick note, Austin and I actually budgeted for some upgrades to Meatgistics this year. This change didn’t bite into that, it was mostly Rachel and I testing but the guys at NodeBB helped as well. However, we have them writing something right now that should help make posts a little easier for everyone to “pretty up” with images. It will be similar (I think I said this already didn’t I? Just scrolled back through and it wasn’t this post so I will continue) to the Link mentions, the feature where you type | and then the name of the product and it links to it but for images on waltons.com. We will see how it works!
