Bob Stehlik The Uncle Nearest is a pretty good Tennessee sour mash. I haven’t had the other 3 bourbons. Let me know how they are.

PapaSop I don’t even pay attention to that stuff unless it somehow ends up in my lap. I did know when BT somehow became popular some liquor stores started to lock it up. Weird seeing middle tier whiskey locked up with the high end stuff.

Yep. 15 years ago it sat and collected dust. Same with Blantons, Eagle Rare, Weller and on and on.

Went into the arsenal and pulled out Smooth Ambler 100 proof Wheated Bourbon to enjoy on the porch last night while puffing on a cigar. I’m no tasting expert. But, to me, it has a hint of cherry and is very smooth for a 100 proof bourbon with one ice cube. Here’s hoping everyone else had a good evening and a better morning.smooth ambler wheated bourbon 9-2-21.jpg

zbigjeff That is usually my method of choice, one ice cube which I sometimes pull out if I feel I’ve hit the “sweet spot”

We do carry that brand but have never tried it. Pretty slow mover.

On a different note, new Walton’s catalog arrived today. May call for something on the rocks while paging through. I may be old fashioned, but still like catalogs. Probably why I still get the newspaper. Online is great, but…

Popped a new bottle tonight. It brings the heat at 107, but has a good caramel flavor.

GWG8541 Went to store today and they were sold out. I was so disappointed that I bought a basil Hayden toast and Noble Oak Double Oak Bourbon. Reviewing them right now. Well, I’m also liking the “Toast” like another countryman PapaSop. It has a nice thick liquid feel on the palate with a long after taste that’s pleasant neat. It was the last one on the shelf. They started with a case earlier in the day. The Noble Oak was aged in American oak and finished in Sherry Oak. It’s decent. But, Woodford Reserve double Oak still beats it.

GWG8541 PapaSop When I tasted the Basil Hayden Toast, I knew “something” was different. But, couldn’t put my tongue on it. Before we started retasting it on Saturday, we looked up the “character/explanation” behind the new boy on the block and here it is: In lieu of traditional rye grain, Basil Hayden Toast is made using American-grown brown rice which, according to the brand, imparts a hint of sweetness and a touch less spice, while a secondary toasted barrel finish draws out notes of caramelized sugar and toasted wood.

While crews were fixing a gas leak in the complex, I thought on day 4 (today) would be a good time to open up something that was full in the arsenal. Yellowstone bourbon was a decent pour and could be easily be consumed neat. But, I decided on a ice cube. Lo and behold after 1.5 hours of sipping this afternoon, the gas was turned on and are now able to cook on the stove and get hot water. Must’ve been a good luck charm (prob: not really. Just good timing).

PapaSop Was that tooooo short of a time??? It was a circus just watching all of the organizations going in circles and how not to run a project (Fire inspectors, Gas Company reps, 3 party vendors).
