Decided to take a break from bourbon today. Nothing like enjoying a rusty nail on the porch with some buds.20210821_151807.jpg

zbigjeff Scotch finished and Drambuie has enough left for 3 drinks. Yep, a little dehydrated this morning.

processhead Yes, almost all physical work. Like putting the items in the bag, getting into car, getting out of car and putting bag over the shoulder and getting up the stairs via the cane. Then, bud took over by retrieving the glasses and ice. Then, he had to also retrieve his first batch of pilsner from the fridge. Someone had to do the heavy lifting.

SethHampton You might try a Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale too, that will raise a few hairs, but nary a drop of the distilled stuff.

calldoctoday you might have to look around for it. I know we can buy it here at liquor stores or at Runnings. A lot of places around here have it on tap too! It is amazing on tap.

So I went to the Tennessee shelf tonight and cracked open a new bottle if Nelson’s Green Brier I’ve had for awhile. I should have opened it sooner. I am not as eloquent as PapaSop in reviewing whiskey, but ITS GOOD! Its a wheated whiskey that has a caramel or brown sugar finish to me. Its a great Tennessee sour mash.

zbigjeff Nelson’s was a Tennessee distillery that shut down after prohibition. Apparently someone in the family revitalized the recipe. I have seen it here in Ohio at my regular liquor stores.

YooperDog South Central TN is home to Jack Daniels and Dickel distilleries and they are less than 20 miles apart. Even if you don’t care for JD, I recommend the tour. If you are heading to the east toward the Smoky Mountains, there are a lot of moonshine distilleries in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area that do samplings, but its ussually crazy busy. My 3 favorite shine distilleries are:

                                          1. SUGARLAND in Gatlinburg
                                          2. Old Forge in Pigeon Forge (good whiskey also)
                                          3. Old Smoky in both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge
I stop at a liquor store outside of Knoxville when I travel through. Its MC’s wine and liquor. They have a great selection of Bourbon, Tennessee Whiskey and Shine. I have purchased bottles there cheaper than the distillery prices in the Smokies.
Kentucky is full of great distilleries. According to what part of the state you travel through depends on what distillery you may want to hit. Buffalo Trace is a favorite of mine, but Beam and Heaven Hill are hard to beat also. Its like being a kid in a candy shop.
