What did everyone cook today?

In 2007 we planted an oak tree in our back yard to celebrate buying our house and starting our family. We’ve called it the Family Tree ever since. Now, as my former softball player wife (who would kill me if I posted a picture of her on here so shhhhhh) works with the boys on their batting, underneath the Family Tree, I’m cooking dinner for the family using a fire made entirely of wood taken from the very same family tree. It feels kinda cool to me. Sorry if my stories bug anyone. To me the story is important and kinda defines the food…

YooperDog I feel your pain. The wife gave me the same talk starting tomorrow. Tonight was reverse seared grilled pork chops and Ceasar salad with tomatoes. The adult beverage was a Gold Rush.

JoeB if I remember correctly the Ranger bar was basically a box of cereal compressed into the size of a Hot Pocket. Take all day to eat it, better drink a lot of water, or else. I think I can remember the Beans & Weenies, but for sure remember the scrambled eggs and ham in a can, that just wasn’t right. A chunk of yellow with pink speckles. Most of the stuff wasn’t to bad, but there were some you couldn’t give away.

YooperDog They ALL needed Tabasco!! We used to have someone send us a case of the small bottles, just a couple of ounces. Made a big difference. I used to stir the cheese into the C-Rats Beans & Franks and then crumble in the crackers and with a little Tabasco you almost had a chili. I used to have a C-Ration cookbook from when I was in SE Asia in 68’-69’. It had all different combinations to make. They still had free cigarettes back them, Lucky Strikes, Pall Malls and Camels. A lot of bartering going on for the cigs, t.p. and chocolate.
Bob Stehlik the cigs were no longer in 78, but the tp was important to have. Smoking was still a pretty normal activity back then, by the time I retired, 2011, totally frowned on and they were looking to get you in a rehab program. Matches and the can opener were hot items, back then you could cook in your steel pot, not a good idea with the kevlar.
Most of the stuff wasn’t bad. Some looked a bit nasty, but usually smelled worse. Yes with a little ingenuity you could have a tasty meal. I grew up in a household of 12 of Eastern European descent so you ate what was being served and we didn’t waste food. Going to McDs was a big thing.

BTY, i was issued one of the 1st M16’s, not yet an A1. Colt made the barrel and receiver (shiny chrome bolt), and the stock was made by Mattel, the Toy Manufacturing Company.

JoeB I went “in country” during Tet (Feb) 1968. We still had the M-14. They had enough weight to them we would exercise with them.

Bob Stehlik 68-69 tet and 4 more, nobody talked about much or was reported. Started with the M-14 but i really liked the Blooper, M-79 grenade launcher. 5 Bronze stars on the Vietnam Service Medal. Was told to change it to a cluster but i never did

Bob Stehlik p38 is so strong can be used to pop the lids on gl. paint cans. I also have a p51 for B rations… Big Boy!
