processhead That would work well too. the only problem with the stuffer I have is that the stud is not square it is splined so nothing really fits well unless you machine something to fit it. I have an Idea using some plastic wrap and wax on the stud, then some JB weld in a socket that is a little bigger than the drive stud on the Mixer. I am going to try that in a few days to see if it will hold and take the tork.

Miket482000 They make square drive sockets that fit the shaft. Just look for an 8 point socket. It will fit the shaft exactly and tight and you will be able to use a long handled ratchet to turn it. Miket482000 You may have tried an inverted Torx bit, they are different from 8 point sockets. 8 point sockets are actually made for square nuts.

johnsbrewhouse The 8 point socket does not work! It fits, but does not go into the groves far enough and when under pressure it slips. I has a hard time getting the socket off as it had twisted on the shaft far enough to get jammed on top of the ridges. It was a good fit no slop when on the shaft, just not enough slot engagement. I actually think Processheads solution is a better option than the ratchet as there is a fair amount of back pressure you can not simply raise the handle to ratchet back. you have to grab the shaft and hold it to prevent it from rotating backwards. Granted this is still faster than taking the handle off and then refitting it, it is less of an advantage than his double ended handle would be in my opinion.

johnsbrewhouse Is there a torx socket? that is what would be necessary. I also don’t recall torx having the same number of splines as the handle shaft has. An 8 point socket fits well just does not go into the spline slots deep enough to hold.

Before I bought A new stuffer from Walton’s I used A 16 mm 12 point socket 1/2 drive instead of my handle and it worked well. With the Walton’s stuffer I have found that the handle works well. My old stuffer was A garage sale special that the ratchet worked well with to give me more control of the speed.

I love the idea of the 1/2" drive. So then then you could run your stuffer with one of these.

ive thought of this too. i am able to clamp the crank side of mine so on the up stroke it doesnt lift the stuffer which works fine but i totally see your point.
opah73 It is not just the lifting it is also more difficult to operate on the up stroke of the crank. Many times I am operating by my self and it is a pain, but when I have a helper they are not always even able to turn it in that fission. So my objective is to just make it easier to operate for me or a child or someone that just is not as capable.

twilliams It would at the very least apply way to much tork which would be very likely to damage the gears to be sure.

johnsbrewhouse They don’t have a deep well socket in that format, I guess I can try a standard, but it will not fit very far onto the shaft stud which gives me pause as to if it will not strip the stud.
