There is no sneaking around wives, just bribery… I got my vacuum sealer because she got a sewing machine that was much more than the chamber sealer.

Can relate to that. After the Ex bought her third sewing machine… I bought the telescope I always wanted. It’s give and take. 😉

Trying to decide on a upgrade from my food saver. It would be for processing wild game. Looking at weston 2300, weston 2600 and weston 3000. Found a 2300 for $250 but not sure to buy it because mixed reviews breaking in a year or less.

bedcitty Got to say that the chamber vacuum sealers are worth their cost. It saves so much food in the log run, bags are much cheaper, and can be used for so many things around the house. If you can hang in there, it may be worth the wait.

And guys, just remember what is yours is hers and what is hers is hers.

bedcitty Hi, i own a 2300. Had it for 10yrs+ It has done well for me, vacpacing over a a 1000 packs of sausage with only a few seal failures… 5-6, and they were my fault by oversight. The good thing about the machine is that you have a 16" seal bar for big things like full 7 bone roasts and pork butts which i S.V. Down side is you can’t vacpac liquids or semi liquids that can be vac’d in a chamber. I also have a vp230 chamber sealer. It’s great, but the size of the bags are limited. It will pac my chilies, and soups. It’s quite and faster with little over-site while processing. Bottom line here the money you want to spend and use of the equipment.

My final thought is that the 2300 is a great entry level starter. A vac chamber $1500+ or an upgrade vac sealer $400-$500 is a future thought after you see the need, based on your dynamically changing requirements. It would be and upgrade, but don’t buy if you don’t understand the need… Hope this helps. Ask questions… Joe

Chef Hi, good to hear fm you. There is a hack for the food bags to use the vac chamber bags with food saver. Just have to say it’s all about returns for money spent. What you need vs what you want… For most entry level Sausage Warriors of the first level it is overwhelming. I say start slow and with experience they will find the need vs the want 😊

Currently on my third Foodsaver. Could have paid for a chambered one and then some.

You mean I can’t use the “Look what I found in the basement” line😂

John Belvedere I couldn’t use that line as well, the basement is her craft room. The whole thing. You think we have an obsession with our hobby, try living with a quilter. I have a quilting machine, two embroidery machine, a sewing machine and a serger in the basement I am not allowed to even touch. And scissors, I have to get my own, I don’t dare use any for downstairs if I care to live. I generally don’t have to ask to hard to buy something as long as it not expensive and we plan for it.

John Belvedere I’ve had the VacMaster Pro380 for a couple of years. It has an 16" seal bar which makes it perfect for roasts and ribs and larger items. This past fall and winter I sealed well over 250 bags with smoked cheese or smoked nuts. I only had 1 seal failure that I found and that was my fault. We also do a couple of bushels of roasted chile each fall without problem.

How big of an item do most chamber vacs hold? I was looking at getting one, but I frequently seal whole pork butts (or close to it). Do they generally accommodate something that size?

Midwest_kc Now I understand, i moved up from a food saver to a master pro 2300 apx 10 yrs ago. It is a good product and did a great job for me. More labor intense than a vac chamber, but also expedientialy less expensive. Chambers are wonderful, and i use mine often, but i still fall back on my vac sealer 2300 for big boy stuff with no liquids… I would do the $300 and grow into the $1700 in time. One last thing, over the last 10yrs with my 2300, i have bagged 1000+. Replaced the seals once, and the heat wire once. Both cost under $15 easy repair. Best to buy what you need, not what you want… That’s my rule. joe

I am a little ashamed, yet proud to admit that I have the cheapest model of Food Saver vac sealer that I found on sale at Menards for $95 over 12 years ago. It has served me well and keeps on sealing perfect packages as long as I feed it quality film.
I am sure some day it will die, and I will need to upgrade, but until then, it keeps soldiering on.

I am a little ashamed, yet proud to admit that I have the cheapest model of Food Saver vac sealer that I found on sale at Menards for $95 over 12 years ago. It has served me well and keeps on sealing perfect packages as long as I feed it quality film.
I am sure some day it will die, and I will need to upgrade, but until then, it keeps soldiering on.

processhead Well stated Paul. For most things in my life and hobbies i use the same philosophy. . … . Replace when failure occurs with possible upgrade
