What did everyone cook today?

Wings on the Primo.

This was a skirt I made with mycampchef yesterday. It was ultimate steak and roast with extra black pepper. Unreal tenderness

-
Had some extra pork loin and made some schnitzel.

DILL EGGS
You dont often see breakfast on here, so thought I would share a pic of my Dill eggs.
Pretty tasty

I cooked a 5 gallon batch of beer today. Does that count?
Here is a picture of the fermenter with the yeast just added to the freshly brewed German Alt wort.

Here is the electric brewing equipment: Hot liquor tank on the upper left, control panel on the wall, mash/lauter tun in the middle, and boil kettle on the right.

Here are a couple of fermenters with finished beer, being transferred into kegs.

Here is the dispensing and consumption area which I refer to as the wall of beer. Looks like I need to do some tidying up.

processhead Yes, that definitely does count! That is an amazing setup you have there & I am just trying to get to the day that I can do some. Been talking about wanting to for too long.

Tex_77 That is serious!

PapaSop how was the Brat and potatoes soup?

I have been brewing for over 20 years now. Occasionally will still buy store bought if I am low or want to sample a particular beer style to replicate.
It is every bit as much fun as meat processing. Consuming and sharing with like minded friends and family is just as rewarding as meat processing too.
If you ever decide to pull the trigger, let me know. I can probably shorten your learning curve a year or two.

processhead Thank you, I really appreciate that. I am ready to pull the trigger, but I just need to break down & do it. I thought several years ago I had figured out just how to get the best quality set up (for both beer & wine) for the best price I think from a company in Missouri that I have their catalogue for. Not meaning to cast any blame, but my wife probably temporary put the brakes on me. I have been collecting the highest quality “GLASS” bottles I can find for years in anticipation, but still just have not done it. Looking at your setup though makes me think bottling is not even the best way to go. I am truly awed. It is probably like one of those things that you just need to drive the first nail & then the rest will fall into place.

PS: processhead, have you got a particular style of beer you have found that you like best? Where or how have you found the best place to get the best grains, etc. for the best price?

Cleaning equipment and containers is a significant part of brewing. I used to bottle beer when I started out. When I started kegging, I asked myself why I had not done it about 5 years earlier.
Consider having to wash and sanitize 48 - 12 ounce bottles (typical 5 gallon batch) versus cleaning and sanitizing a single 5 gallon stainless Cornelius keg. Bottles are nice for portability, but I can always fill a growler from a tap if I want beer-to-go. -

I have about 5 or 6 recipes/ styles that I tend to keep on hand. I am fond of German/Czech pilseners, German Heffeweizens (wheat beer) Bocks, and Octoberfest styles. I like English pale ales too,
There is a really good local brewing supply place not too far away. Like Walton’s, they have all the good supplies, equipment and maybe more importantly a great knowledge base and training capability for their customers.

Oh man, that looks good! And I just finished supper…
Is that ham or bacon? There is no wrong answer!

processhead My down right favorite will always be the Porters. Then I would say a good Stout. I am not too fond of the Heffeweizens, but I have found one or two that I did like, then the German Pilsners I would say. To some degree it depends on the weather, what I am doing, & what I am eating it with. I know that sounds weird, but that seems to have an impact on exactly what I like at the moment. We have nothing around here unfortunately that I am aware of for supplies, equipment, & raw material. It looks like you have created some of your own equipment & good stuff too.

Not having a local place to shop is not the worst thing. Almost anything is available for purchase from on line sources. It is nice to be able to go in and see stuff and kick tires at a brick and mortar store. -

calldoctoday Darn, our tastes in beer are separated at birth. I don’t consume many. But, when I do, your profile meets mine down to a T. Have people in various groups that either make beer and wine or people who want to go to tastings. The tastings have pretty much stopped due to C19. When invited to do a finished product tasting in the household, I bring the rolling bar and we pair it up. Glad you guys are having your own fun. Keep it going.

I’m getting the hang of this camp chef woodwind!

calldoctoday once I went to kegging I have never looked back. I still bottle occasionally to give away fill a growler to bring along. No capping and cleaning dozens of bottles
