@s-a-m Traeger pellets are 100% wood, only food grade soybean oil used process the pellets, not to flavor it, they are made in Oregon. I personally don’t buy their product anymore, because they have gotten way to pricey. I use Bear Mountain made in OR and a new brand Smokehouse that are made in OR as well. Get them at Smart Food Service for 1/3 less than the Traegers.

John Gehringer Smart Food Service is hands down my favorite store but I have to travel about an hour to get to one. Walla Walla is getting one this year…super stoked!

Mesquite and hickory are 100% wood just not hickory or mesquite, their either Adler or oak with oils. A simple search shows that and most bags of treager pellets aren’t 100% the specie’s llike apple is like 30-40% apple and the rest is oak or Adler , I stick to lumberjack brand.( it’s a free country people can buy what that want) jm2c

Jonathon Most people I talk to said the overall harvest was down a couple even got skunked and they put the time in. No chronic wasting here yet, in PA so I’m sure it’s headed our way.

craigrice so I’m not familiar but my understanding is you shouldn’t be cutting any bones? Or just the spine? I missed getting a saw so we just debone everything and make jerky/sausage/roasts. What’s health Dept recommending?

Parksider This seems to be a renewed response on an old thread but I’d like to hear some updates. Personally…I’d go for a big Hobart even if it’s not the perfect choice for the simple fact that I could make a crazy amount of baked goods.

craigrice I think he was saying that one of the main worries with animals that are possibly infected with CWD is that it is heavily present in the bones and some organs. This http://cwd-info.org/hunting-faq/ has some good information for anyone wanting to read up on it.

And, though this isn’t necessarily the proper place for it but BHA (Back Country Hunters & Anglers) recently had a film event here and for anyone looking to support a good cause check this out https://www.backcountryhunters.org/ they put on a film that was a series of short stories from people like us and some were funny, some were beautiful and some were just downright sad/inspriing.

One was a guy had a daughter with downs syndrome and she wanted to hunt so he set everything up for her and carried her to blinds and made a stand so she could actually pull the trigger…darn it, it is getting dusty in the room right now!

Thank GOD I missed the one about the hunting dog!

I have a 20lb hand mixer and when I’m mixing pork the pork sticks to the sides like crazy. Any suggestions on how to eliminate this problem?

I have better luck when the meat block is really cold, and check the direction you are mixing. I’m left handed so depending on the hand mixer the paddles might be pushing the meat to the outside?
