zbigjeff Not a problem! I can’t wait to get out of this midwest heat and look at the Turnagain Arm on Friday night. Then off to Ninilchik and spend 10 days with relatives and hope the water is good, to go catch some halibut. If not we will have a good time relaxing and drinking some adult beverages.

zbigjeff The boar tide occurs in the Turnagain Arm, just off the Cook Inlet. It is wild to watch them surfing it, when it occurs. The tides in the cook inlet are some of the most extreme water changes in the world.

ND Mike What an adventure! Those red salmon are fun to catch and very good eating. The bear watching and view during the your lunch is spectacular!

Sounds like the bunch I hang around with. Wit and friendly jabs are common occurrence and you need thick skin.

ND Mike I am anxiously awaiting the adventure shown tomorrow. My wife and I went on the glacier tour in 1990 and I found it very interesting. The sights up there are amazing! I can’t wait for 7/1 when I head back up there. Pretty sure the first evening my uncle and I will be deep in the adult beverages, since I haven’t seen him since Covid hit.

ND Mike You need to plan and go again when the reds are running. That is a lot of fun hooking into them with a 9 or 10 weight fly rod. The Kasilof has a red run, although the fish are smaller than what you catch in the Kenai.

Jonathon They have a native and hatchery run Kings on the Kasilof. You can only keep the hatchery raised fish that have the adipose fin clipped. They let native fish go upriver to have the eggs stripped and hatch, then released for future generations. The king salmon fishery is very fragile.

ND Mike Better weather, water, and a Halibut over 50# may move it up favorites list. I am waiting for the drift on the Kasilof update. Typically a good King salmon run with the hatchery fish.

ND Mike Can’t wait to hear the updates and highlights! Leaving on 7/1 for my trip and it has been a couple of years since I made the trip there. My uncle sent this pic of a young bull that has been bedding in his yard at his cabin.

kyle Took my 9 year old neighbor boy aka fishing buddy, on the Missouri River yesterday. We typically go on Friday, but he was busy with other activities, so a Saturday trip was planned. We kept 24 and he caught 4 of the 5 bigger fish and the best one was 6.25#. This kid is ready to go at 6:30am would spend all day in the boat. He was shaking from excitement after catching the bigger fish, trying to beat his record of 6.5#.

Brianzipperdog123 I know right where you are talking about. I have fished by the visitor center a few times and there is a few great drifts there and below along Centennial. Most of the time we fish in the Sterling area about a half mile south of Moose River confluence on some private. No crowds and very peaceful.

twilliams You are spot on for the temperature, to keep the cartilage in place. A pressure washer a time saver for cleaning them up. I use 36% hydrogen peroxide for the whitening at a 50/50 mix with water, for about 5 days. There are other products available to whiten them, although I get out dated peroxide from my brother and the free price is right.

ND Mike You will have a good time up there, trust me. I have tickets to leave on 7/1 for the good tides in July this year. I normally go later when the Reds are running but the Halibut tides were not great later in July. I have relatives that live up there and they have 10 acres and 2 cabins near Ninilchik and friends that live on the Kenai, for red action. I believe this is my 20th trip up there. I have fished on the Kasilof for kings and that is a fun drift experience. Bring good rain gear, thermacell, and bug spray. The tractor launch at Deep Creek will be an experience. Plenty of youtube videos out there of some mishaps while loading up.
