My Appeal to Walton

Sorry about not responding to this sooner. It has been so crazy here lately, and I didn’t want to give this just a 2 second response.I wrote a response multiple times, and I’m scrapping it all to be a bit briefer (Yes, this one is briefer than my first couple takes at writing something! Haha!)
Before the events of the last few months, I already had a distaste for social media for a variety of reasons, so I started to write out why I disliked them, and I didn’t personally use them. I have a lot of personal animosity towards social media, but I know a lot of people enjoy it and it provides value to them. I would write a 20 page novel if I could, but I decided I should cut a lot of that out because I ultimately hope everyone makes the choice that makes them happy and they also allow me to make the choices that make me happy, and I am personally happy by not using social media.Walton’s ultimately uses various social media platforms because that is where many of our customers spend a lot of their time, they expect to interact with us there, and they find value in it. While we use them, I don’t want to let them use us. While they provide a benefit to our customers and thus a benefit to us, we will probably remain involved and have a page/channel to some extent on different platforms. We had been discussing previously if Twitter specifically was providing any value to us for a long time, and we had already made the decision to wind down what we did there. We simply no longer got a benefit from it and I don’t think many customers were either, so as of now, I believe we are mostly done with being very active on Twitter. Our account does remain there and will continue to, but it won’t receive much attention going forward because it doesn’t benefit our customers or us. While Facebook continues to benefit our customers who choose to use it, we will probably remain involved to some extent. I have historically chosen to not spend money with them, but I prioritize trying to use them (or any other social media platform) instead of letting them use us. If we and/or our customers stop getting a benefit from using them, then we will stop using them.
While I personally dislike social media in general, I understand everyone gets to make their own choice about whether they use it or not. I choose not to use it personally, but while people use the various platforms, we will try to be available as a company to our customers through the various channels they prefer. That does have a limit, and our involvement may only go so far as to the specific needs and benefits that it brings to our customers. If it stops being of a benefit to our customers, or somewhere else becomes a more appealing place, we would and will be changing our focus. I can say that we will be changing some of our focus. I know there are many other social media platforms out there that have some very strong and loyal user bases that we have not used in the past, and we have and are creating channels on some new platforms. If they prove to be beneficial to us and our customers that use them, we’ll continue to focus more heavily on them than others. We will continue to try to adapt to where our customers are investing their time.
The Most Important Stuff
One of the “alternative” platforms out there, in my opinion, is Meatgistics. It is in a sense, some level, part, or piece of a social media. I wouldn’t put it in that exact category, but it does have some similarities. Meatgistics is where I prefer and we do spend most of our time and money, particularly when it comes to direct customer interactions. I very much prefer having our own platform for sharing, communicating, and interacting with customers (and even people who aren’t customers). I think Meatgistics has been a place that has grown to be a very well respected place where everyone is friendly, kind, supportive, and very much like a family (Even Team Blue, as crazy as they are, hold a special place in my heart! Hahaha!). It is unlike other sites, platforms, and places out there on the web for the quality of community that has been developed. We could have spent our time and money on building a connection with people through an existing social media and a group page there, but we decided to forge our own path and create our own place where people could communicate freely with one another and us and we weren’t beholden to someone or something else. While other social media platforms will always have some place in what we do, Meatgistics will always be our main focus, our main area of communication, and our preferred place to interact with everyone out there. Everyone has their own choice to make though on where they spend their time. Many people won’t ever use Meatgistics because it is not as convenient to them as Facebook, or maybe it is just too unfamiliar, or whatever other reason people may have, but we can choose to make this the one place that receives most of our attention, time, and money, and we can try and foster an environment that is different from other places out there. That is the amazing thing that I love, the fact that everyone is free to make their own choices. My hope is that everyone is also able to respect my choices and let me be free to choose what I want to do, just as I don’t want to interfere with what they choose to do, even when I don’t agree with them. My choice and loyalty will always lie with the users of Meatgistics and the people here. Even if we have or don’t have a presence on other platforms, Meatgistics will always be the one platform we will spend our focus on.
Austin I don’t do much on social media sights, I am on a couple for home processing, sausage making sights. I am constantly pointing people to meatgistics and all that I have told about it give it a thumbs up.

Austin I should have thought this out more fully when I encouraged you to post that…It very well might be the most upvoted single response for Meatgistics and I NEED to have everything! Get ready for an emotionally manipulative post coming from me some time soon so I can take that back! Just kidding, and Im not calling your post manipulative! I only occasionally post thing on Instagram, other than that I have nothing to do with Social Media, interesting idea that meatgistics is a replacement for me. I hadn’t considered that. PapaSop did you notice he used community and not the other word? Midwest_kc I don’t think we will ever get rid of youtube but we might eventually not make it a focus. Everything we do will still find its way there though for the foreseeable future. We have 30k subs on youtube and about 14k meatgistics users though. THe meatgistics is growing much faster than youtube and our Meatgistics users are a lot more prized by us than the youtube subs!
Jonathon you know Team-Orange and our leader Austin does everything better. We also have no emotion to be manipulated. Just sayin.

I am new here. Right now I am lost. Last week I made 60 pounds of assorted sausage. Still looking for good recipe for summer sausage.
caterjay Since none of the Team-Blue members have offered this up, I’ll post this. It’s Jonathon making Summer Sausage. I used it and I loved it! My seasoning blend was the H Summer Sausage Blend. Oh and switch sides. Orange is greater than blue.

zbigjeff lol nice one! caterjay https://meatgistics.waltonsinc.com/topic/762/cured-sausage-107-basics-for-making-summer-sausage and https://meatgistics.waltonsinc.com/topic/1108/cured-sausage-206-advanced-cured-sausage-processing are two good summer sausage how to.
badfire2625 That’s so obviously untrue that it doesn’t deserve a response…wait a minute

I did notice that. It’s only right. This is a “community”. -
caterjay I love the community and the banter here. It’s nothing like Republicans and Democrats. This is all in good fun. I’ve not seen one bad egg in this whole community. Hopefully my joking is seen as it is intended. Just harmless fun.

I want to point out something pretty awesome (at least in my mind) that happened. We now have more Meatgistics Users than we have Instagram or Twitter followers! Still down to the FBs but I will tell you this. 1 Meatgistics member is worth a whole lot more to me/us than a social media follower, so thanks guys!

So I went back and re-read this whole thread. I started on a few occasions to post a serious reply only to be side-tracked by my little kid side wanting to pick on Team-Blue because you know… SQUIRREL! As someone who once ran a business, I agree 100% with the decision to keep @Walton-s social media pages alive to the extent that they benefit the company. I’d have to venture a guess that a large percentage of Team-Orange, Team-Grey and Team-Blue found this community via some form of social. When I had my photo studio, I begrudgingly added to my Social Media to promote my business. Thankfully, I never gave any of them any money, but I was able to stay connected with potential customers. I’m glad you are all doing whatever it takes to keep Meatgistics alive, well and growing. Austin, Jonathon, @The-Fridge-Raider and the rest of those of you who keep this train rollin’ THANK YOU! I get here in little cycles because of my job and family life. When I do, I always learn something and get some entertainment. What I don’t do is leave angry or frustrated. No one here except Jon tells me I’m wrong…
But seriously, everyone here is great and I hope the social media funnel keeps bringing many more fine people who share our passion. -

Knowing that “social media” is now a broad term. The only format I used prior to this was LinkedIn and viewed YouTube videos. I found Waltons at the recommendation of a friend that owns a meat house (slaughter house, not retail). I had asked them advice on where to buy seasonings, cure, additives, etc… They recommended Walton’s. So after going to Walton’s site, I discovered Meatjistics and all of you wonderful people. I have not and never will have interest in Twitter or Facebook (maybe Marketplace)and even more so now that they have become political. Thats why I like this platform. Sure we all have something in common, and my guess is there are a mix of political beliefs on here. The thing is, unlike those other platforms I mentioned, you would never know it. And if it would go that route or supported that behavior, I definitely wouldn’t want to be part of that group. I know, I’m a Dinosaur.

GWG8541 No you aren’t a dinosaur. I think that moving away from social media is more of a trend than you would think. However, there are those out there who haven’t found Walton’s or Meatgistics yet and the social media funnel is a real thing. This community acts like a civilized society of carnivores should. Those that use social can interact with those that don’t and we all treat each other with respect. In fact, I wouldn’t call Meatgistics a form of Social Media at all. That is almost as bad as calling it a foru… I can’t say it but you know what I mean. I see it as more of the coolest bar in town where like minded people come to talk, joke and talk some more.
I agree with Jon and Austin that continuing to build this community of [insert whatever Jonathon is gonna call us here] will benefit everyone. And much the same as businesses use social to funnel potential customers through the doors, Meatgistics can do the same to funnel new members into the community. Honestly, I wouldn’t be on any of those platforms if is wasn’t for my crazy work schedule which creates a lack of contact with my Mother and Sister. Well, that and my daughter is growing up… I can’t see anyone putting up with political bullying on here.

badfire2625 First of all, when are you coming to Team Blue???. Spend as much time as you can with the family. I lost both Mom and Dad last year. 2020 was a tough one. Neither from COVID. I miss them more than I thought I ever would. Family first brother.
