Quite a bit late to the game but in my experience outside of a leak of refrigerant in the system the start capacitor likely went out. These are fairly cheap parts to replace and an easy, and fairly cheap diagnostic tool is something like a Supco RCO410 Start Kit (for 1/4-1/3 hp compressors for $12-15.00. You can also use these as replacement parts to keep the freezer running or purchase the correct start capacitor for your model once you have established that the freezer will run with the above installed (about a 15 mni project). I have saved many home freezers over the years checking to see what has gone wrong when a freezer takes a dive. I have 9 freezers running right now to hold the pork and poultry we raise as well as storing a buddy’s (who is off grid) frozen eat.
