Tex_77 I bought the tractor to manage other things on the property, and did not buy the tiller until about a year later, but man does the tiller work great. What took me about 2 hours with a walk behind tiller, literally takes about 10 minutes. Not to mention saving the body aches.I

Tex_77 I do recommend those hand augers as well, but I really like this for softening up the ground.
GWG8541 Yes, they are real nice. When we were in Texas & had more property (everything is bigger in Texas) I had an Italian 5 or 6 footer that I hooked up to my JD. I cannot remember the brand other than it was from Italy & Orange (uh oh)It was a beast & I mean a real heavy duty monster. We don’t have the space nor the money here, but I will tell you, if you have got it, they are worth every penny. Made a heck of a garden that fed us pretty much 100%, the neighbors (there were only a few), friends & what was left, Margaret would take to the Chinese restaurant & the fruit stand as they knew we had good stuff, even if it was not certified, it was just as good or better. I am just forking it now & the garden is only about 30 x 40 now too. I need the exercise.

GWG8541 Yes, it still keeps us going. Yes, that was one heck of a beast. I even used it to till up the little league baseball field every year before grading it. Then I would use it to till the road & grade it. That was one tough son of a gun. I feel like I lost my left arm when I sold all that stuff including a Bob Cat 863 with a nice post hole digger & trencher, amongst other stuff. Oh well, life goes on. I miss it though some days, but don’t know how I had the energy to keep up with all that, & more, either.

GWG8541 I like my tiller also. One nice thing is for making new lawn, going over the ground a few times, it levels it out so well. I built a 5 foot cultipaker out of a piece of plastic culvert. After tilling, throw the seed down, roll it and watch it grow

Pro tip, invest in a couple drill augers to vastly reduce the time and effort it takes to plant a garden. You’ll be thanking me once you do.

Anyone ever use a Chapin garden push seeder? They say it will plant up to 20 different seeds with the 6 seed plates it comes with. I watched a couple videos on them and it looks good. They are around $100. If they work as good as they do in the video, it would really cut my planting time down next spring

kyle I plant a pretty good sized garden. It’s 130ft x 75ft and since I got this planter I don’t see how I made it without it. They are a huge time saver. I do have to thin the plants a little more with this but way worth it. It controls seed depth so much better than I could with a hoe. I was reluctant at price so me and a neighbor split one. He quit gardening so I gladly bought his half. IMO it’s worth every penny. Good luck with your garden no matter what you decide.

kyle just picked 1/4 of my carrots
. I used to hate planting them because the seeds are so small but now it’s a breeze.

We had a hard frost in northern Wisconsin june 3, but nothing was up yet. Looking great now. Temps in the 90’s, but no rain. Watering every night

cdavis thanks. I was going to split the cost with my neighbor also. Just seemed to good to be true. Things usually work better when you watch a youtube video then when you actually get one home
kyle a little trick I learned on the plates for real small seeds like radishes and carrots I tape up every other hole and it spaces the seeds out better. Another tip is even if your just planting a small piece put the whole package of seeds in. The more seeds in the hopper the less chance of a skip in the row. It’s easy to pour them back in the package when you’re done. Hope this helps.
