Today is Armed Forces day, and Monday 30 May 2022 will be Memorial Day. I am posting this for all who served, and remembering those that never had the opportunity to take off their uniform.
“A Soldier”
I was that which others did not want to be.
I went where others feared to go. And did what others failed to do.
I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness, should I fail.
I have seen the face of terror, felt the stinging cold of fear, and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment’s love.
I have cried, pained, and hoped, but most of all I have lived times others would say were best forgotten.
At least someday I will be able to say I was proud of what I was…

1968JoeB Well said brother. I love that poem. It always brings to mind Teddy Roosevelt’s “Man in the Arena” speech. Memorial day definitely takes on a new meaning the moment you bury a brother or sister in arms.

glen I think I will have to look that one up!

Denny O Found it in our local Dillon’s/Kroger grocery, gotta believe it’s in liquor stores too
I think it’ll be a winner for JD -

JoeB I saw some pretty old school looking helmets on your mantle, was that a ferman ww2 helmet in the middle? It looks like the one Sgt Schultz wears in Hogans Heroes.
Jonathon Your right about the helmet, but a bit confused… Gave you a thumbs up, but it showed a thumbs down… I have never used the thumbs down not ever since signing up for the site… So to make it clear thumbs up Jonathon

JoeB Re: thumbs down. Thinking I sometimes have that same issue when communicating on the phone. Probably because of my bear paws. Never have that issue on my pc. Lol

Weird. Just found three myself that I’d never have downvoted.

This is almost like tequila but it’s not, pretty good to me. But I also enjoy tequilas served neat.

Not as smooth as the 1870 Original Batch but decent, gonna be one I’d pour on the rocks.

HerbcoFood I’ve got a bottle of that myself, can’t beat the price.

I have now stepped it up to the big boy proof, it really doesn’t drink as high as the proof says it is. I’ve had the small batch 1792 which I think isn’t very good at all.

glen It is tasty, but I have to do the lemonade & as many of the other things that I can, homemade. hard to do a peach though unless you could find a good ol NEHI Peach!
