Jonathon Congrats on growing to the point you need to hire more help. I sure hope you can find someone as knowledgeable and enthusiastic and involved as yourself, that really takes it from a forum to the community level!

At first I would have said no replies, as a lot of threads drift into talking about dogs or sports teams etc and it’s a lot of reading to find the nuggets.

However, there ARE a lot of nuggets in the replies that can hugely increase the overall value if the thread. For instance @DennyO-s brisket recipe has a tone of knowledge on timing, temps, tenderness in follow on posts.

If I had a recipe with some pics, I’m not sure I’d post it in User Recipes if no one could reply, I’d probably rather put it somewhere else for the discussion and folks comments and tweaks. It’s the replies that make me feel my time spent posting was worthwhile, usually.

Perhaps have a moderated reply section that edits out the non-relevant content?

processhead I think this would be a good idea, anything having to do with the recipe would be good to keep with the thread, but as we all know, the longer a thread goes the more it gets off subject. It is all enjoyable but hard to track through sometimes with all the outside comments.

So, we are currently interviewing for a social media assistant at Walton’s and part of that persons job will be keeping up with Meatgistics community. I am thinking that we take Chef and others suggestions and make this person’s job partly putting together a Meatgistics Cookbook. It would be pre-order and probably be the top 20 or so recipes submitted to this category a year.

Along with that comes a tougher conundrum that seems to have people fairly evenly split. Do we allow replies to this category’s posts, or make it so the only post will be the initial user recipe post?

When we get the person in and start looking at this we will be looking for some more feedback from people.

Jonathon would it be possible to have 2 of the same threads. The “normal” one would allow replies, but the true recipe thread would have no replies. Maybe a Waltons employee could move the recipe over to a thread that we cant post on. If changes needed to be updated on a recipe, we would have to tag the person in charge of moving the recipe. Just a thought

Jonathon Thinking that the person would have to look at the original post and then determine if the beginning recipe did not change throughout the thread. That’s the real target because many do change after initial transmission. Sounds like there’s some challenges to come.

The whole recipe book would only be 20 recipes?
