SupplySergeant those things are a fire and gassing hazard. Nothing more exciting than having a fire on your plane at altitude with limited options, makes for a real exciting time for all. I can laugh about those times now. LOL

SupplySergeant NP I have lots of good memories over the years. Always enjoyed having troops come up on the flight deck on the Herc. Usually took the most junior and worked our way to the upper ranks. Most folks don’t realize how fast things can go from ‘hmmm… what the heck is going on to holy cr@p we got an serious issue here’. Taxiing in on a B-52 we had a guest service member on board and we blew a hydraulic/brake line in a landing gear bay and unfortunately we had hot brakes. Very bad combo. Our guest disconnected his intercom to pack up, before we got a call from tower telling us of our issue, smoke and flames where there should be none. He thought we joking as were yelling at him to get off the hatch which was directly in front of the now smoking landing gear bay, so we could get our warm bodies off and away from a very quickly degrading situation. We had to throw him off the hatch so we could disembark and runaway. He did follow. Thank you fire department folks. Laughed about it the club, not so much in the debriefing. A lot of lessons learned. Shiezer happens.

YooperDog I really get that these days, I’m a student pilot. It is truly amazing how fast things can go wrong in a plane!

SupplySergeant enjoy the learning and never stop. Always think about what should I be doing or planning next. Get ahead of the plane and you will be surprised on how much fun it is. Enjoy the view.

Thanks! I find I am an “out the window” flyer, rather than a “fly the dials” guy. Hopefully, I can get through PP and instrument and still enjoy flying!

              SupplySergeant, YooperDog

I was flying commercial one time and the passenger next to me before take off had a big three ring binder that he was intently looking through. I noticed it was an aircraft manual. I struck up a conversation with him and he explained that he was a pilot deadheading to get to his next flight.

Once our plane started rolling for take off his demeanor changed and I could tell he was a little tense. Once the plane gained altitude and leveled off he relaxed. I asked him, “You don’t like being back here do you?” He smiled and told me that he was much more comfortable when he was the one flying the plane.

YooperDog SupplySergeant my oldest boy is about ready to solo. He is a filltime Firefighter/Paramedic so I’m hoping he is on top of his flight training.

I’ve been frustratingly slow, myself. Only managed to get 12 hours in over the last year. When I have money, either the weather, the plane, or my instructor aren’t available! But I will get there eventually. Good luck to your son!

SupplySergeant hang in there, his has been slow as well. His original instructor unfortunately died from a medical issue several months ago. He has another instructor and is back on track.

GWG8541 congrats to your son. I was excited as all get out on my solo takeoff, then I realized that there wasn’t anyone to correct my errors. Then I thought I guess I better not make any. I had a blast that day.

Awhile back I was trying to decide on canning something with corned beef. I finally decided to try corned beef hash. I bought a bottom round roast that weighed 3.75 lbs for $3.88/lb, a pretty good deal with current beef prices.

                          20211206_101607_copy_1512x2016.jpg

Split the roast in half and injected it with a brine made with Tender Quick.

                          20211206_102959_copy_1512x2016.jpg

Then I threw in some pickling spices and granulated garlic and left in the fridge for 48 hours with the remaining brine.

                          20211206_104054_copy_1512x2016.jpg

Today I diced it up and it had a nice red color from the cure. Weight had increased to a little over 4lbs.

                          20211208_113403_copy_1444x1574.jpg

Packed 8ozs of beef with 4ozs of diced potatoes and added 1/4 tsp of finely ground pickling spice in pint jars. I didn’t add anymore salt because I’m pretty sure there was enough from the brine. Cleaned the jar rims with vinegar, put the lids on and into the canner.

                          20211208_121913_copy_1424x1541.jpg

Pressure canned at 11lbs psi for 75 minuets. Thank you SupplySergeant for the tip on the jiggler weight! It held nuts on at 11lbs with very little heat adjustments.

                          20211208_132223_copy_1413x1358.jpg

Out of the canner after cooling down and all eight jars sealed. I love that special sound when the lids suck down!

                          20211208_151454_copy_1500x1275.jpg

I can’t wait to fry it up tomorrow with some eggs on the side.

marzig20 looks and sounds amazing!! waiting to hear how it came out when you fry it. The extra pickling spice in the jars kinda scares me. Lol. I don’t like a lot of it as it leaves a bad aftertaste for me.
