Happy Thanksgiving

I got my turkey fix in last night, I think Ill just be eating my wifes’ squash casserole tomorrow with rolls as a spoon!
HerbcoFood Rolls should be spoons more often in my opinion. Let’s just replace spoons with rolls for everything, except maybe cereal and ice cream.

JohnG5 That is how I feel about the tortilla, it’s a great vessel to shovel with.

HerbcoFood Only way to eat with a tortilla. Tear off a piece and get a pinch. My babysitter used to make authentic beans, rice, pork, and potatoes a lot and we weren’t allowed to use silverware, just tortillas. I saw her a few years back before she died when I was doing some weed eating at a retirement apartment complex for some extra cash. She told me to come by her apartment when I was done and she had me a plate ready to go. Still as good as when I was a kid.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Hope everyone has a good time with their loved ones. Be sure to share with us what you are cooking for tomorrow. My family is making cornish game hens and all the traditional Thanksgiving side dishes. Except for Cranberry Sauce. Not a fan for some reason. I do like green bean casserole with bacon bits though. No homemade turkey and noodles this year due to lack of time, which is another one of my favorites. Really my favorite holiday. Food, pro football, and college basketball all day. Plus naps are encouraged!!!
JohnG5 Naps will definitely be on the schedule.

JohnG5 I make red chile pork and put some cheese in with it and have a bowl of it with a tortilla and tear off chunks of the tortilla and scoop the pork onto it, only way to eat it.

bocephus Man that sounds delicious. I’m stealing that one!!! I probably eat Tex Mex or Mexican food more than anything. Not Thanksgiving without a nap. I try to time my nap when the Detroit Lions are playing, or when it’s time to help with the clean-up.
JohnG5 Those are both good times to take a nap, Chicago vs Detroit, that should be interesting for oh… 2 minutes.

GWG8541 thank you Brother!

JohnG5 We are just doing a simple smoked turkey with a little help from friends & family. I was going to do a Turducken too, but decided against it as I want to make my own & have some ideas about sous vide & browning of the inner components along the way before a final smoke on the turkey part & the inner remains to get a good, thorough, balanced cook. The turkey is already in the Walton’s brine, deuced up a bit with Muscadine wine & injected with a little Muscadine, Maple Syrup, & Cherry. Will be smoked with wine stave remains & Cherry wood. I have some fresh cranberries in the crockpot now for a cranberry/Raspberry sauce. Will also do a little simple cornbread stuffing with apples, cherries, cranberries, pecans, & sage sausage. Maybe some oysters too if I can find any on the way back from our inspection this afternoon. I will work the giblet gravy tomorrow while the buzzard is smoking. Margaret will make some yeast rolls, & we are awaiting a possible special pie. My oldest daughter in law will do some green bean casserole, Punkin or sweet potato pie, & Cinamon roasted butternut squash from the garden. My oldest son’s mother in law will do some of her famous sweet tater casserole & deviled eggs, so my youngest son will not have to do them. That is about it for us, trying to keep it simple. Happy Thanksgiving Holiday to all you all in the neighborhood along with you families & friends. Have a nice relaxing & enjoyable holiday.

calldoctoday You are definitely going all out!! Sounds amazing. That cornbread stuffing sounds incredible, as does everything else.

Going to my brothers, he plans on ham and a deep-fried turkey, we are bringing sweet potato casserole and fruits and fresh apple and banana bread.

JohnG5 I am really trying hard to keep it simple & relaxing! It is nothing like I used to do 20 years ago & had the energy to pull it all off without a hitch, work a full time job rather than a business (that can be three full time jobs at times, but you decide), & still have enough left to take it easy & drink a little whiskey cider.
-
bocephus Now that sounds wonderful, relaxing, & healthy, but sweet too.

calldoctoday I always heard if you want to work 40 hours a week, get a job. If you want to work 12 hours a day seven days and week, start a business. Energy is definitely wasted on youth. Imagine if you had the energy you had then and the knowledge you have now.

bocephus Happy thanksgiving to you too and to all Meatgistics members, 2021 has been a trying year, but this community continuing to grow while maintaining a friendly, supportive and helpful tone is probably what I am most happy with this year!

A valuable lesson to be learned here even though I don’t see many of you making this mistake. Cool video though. https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/watch-deep-fried-turkey-turn-into-fireball-as-mississippi-firefighters-demonstrate-dangers/vi-AAR5GRH?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=U531

An early Happy Thanksgiving to all. Been busy prepping for tomorrow, seems now we have a couple of more people coming. Made pies yesterday, couple of extras for the in-laws and the neighbor who we can’t get to join us for the meal, but enjoys Pecan pie. Got a full turkey in on brine for the roaster and a breast in another brine for the smoker. Just finished making corn bread and the cranberry sauce. That should be it for the rest of the day.
