Thanks for everyone’s opinion, I think I do want more of a cabinet than a safe. I feel like my situation might be a little unique, I have no kids nor are kids ever in my house without my wife or I and their parents, so I am not worried about that. I also never have a house that doesn’t have at least 1 of my dogs in it, who will consume anyone trying to enter my house. We’ve had people try to give Brutus treats while we aren’t there to see how he would react if someone tries to distract him with peanut butter, and while he drooled more he didn’t stop snarling, so unless they are willing to kill him I think we are safe there. We also no longer board him while we go somewhere, he says at the house and our neighbor takes care of him. Basically if my wife could bring Brutus with her wherever she went I’d feel a lot safer!

Jonathon Had a cabinet and changed to a safe, you can also keep other valuables locked up. Again your choice entirely I would get a cabinet with a lock, I think most have them, for when you have people over with kids because you just never know. Also keep ammo separate from guns unless for home protection.

Jonathon I dont have a safe either but I probably should. My kids know that guns aren’t toys and they are very respectful. I have an oak gun cabinet that my Dad built that holds most of my long guns and it has a locking cabinet below where I store ammo. I do have overflow upstairs in our bedroom closet. I may have too many guns…wait…no that is not possible…lol!

Jonathon We also use our safe as a place to keep important paperwork, so it’s not just a one stop shop. Though maybe I should get one specifically for paperwork and hide it somewhere else…

I have a safe but it doubles as a paperwork and guns and ammo it is one big thing it weights in at 750# empty so with guns and ammo it isn’t going anywhere

              Safe. Bolted down.
I would feel terrible if I knew someone stole a gun from me and used it to hurt someone else. I kind of feel we have that responsibility, no matter how remote the odds seem.

Yup, no such thing. Only issue possible is not enough ammo. I inadvertently purchased the wrong bullets one time. I had to purchase a firearm to go with the ammo. My wife only let me make that mistake once, LOL

YooperDog I purchased some .243 ammo for a nephew, and borrowed a friend’s gun, still have some of the ammo and now I am trying to talk my wife into buying a rifle. Looking at a savage that you can take a section out of the stock for her and put it back in for me. Cabela’s is having a black Friday deal on them.

Yeah, I have no need to purchase another gun right now. I have at least 1 each of the Shotgun, Handgun, Rifle and have a build going on for another. My wife is at least happy that I won 2 guns but I highly doubt she would have been as excited had I not won them. I also won a Camp Chef Everest 2 mobile stove. I have a nice little hunting/camping setup. Kurt Ratzlaff from BHA and I are gonna have a few glasses of whiskey on the Podcast today, he just got back from Elk hunting and I was Pheasant Hunting in Colby Kansas at the governors’ hunt, so we will compare notes.

Jonathon that will be a good podcast! You don’t want to see my garage. I could outfit a lot of hunting camps. I really got into collecting old Coleman camping lanterns and stoves. I have way to many!!! I have too many tents also. I just like the outdoors too much!!!

bocephus I love Savage guns. I have a Savage model 110E that my Dad bought me when I turned 14. It is just a plain and cheap gun but that thing has always been a tack driver. It is like an extension of my body I have shot it so much. It is that super plain gun I am holding with that doe that I just shot last Sunday.

Jonathon I used to hunt north of Colby around Oberlin KS. I would meet a bunch of family and friends over Thanksgiving, and we would do a turkey on a grill and canned potatoes. Great memories!

bocephus I love Savage guns. I have a Savage model 110E that my Dad bought me when I turned 14. It is just a plain and cheap gun but that thing has always been a tack driver. It is like an extension of my body I have shot it so much. It is that super plain gun I am holding with that doe that I just shot last Sunday.

ND Mike I don’t own one yet but have friends with some and they highly recommend them, good to hear from another person that is happy with theirs. Thanks.

bocephus I’ve used that Savage rifle for 34 years and I have never had a problem with it. I shot it with open sights for my first 8 years. That gun has probably killed over 100 whitetails, 1 mule deer buck, and 1 bull elk.
