So, I have gotten skunked twice at Cabellas and at Academy looking for 6.5 Creedmoor, today the guy said the person directly ahead of me had grabbed all the rest of the 6.5 Creedmoor. Anyway, I ordered 3 boxes from a company called Midway USA I think yesterday and they arrived today. They are pricier rounds than what I was looking for but beggers can’t be choosers! Anyway, I recommend them! https://www.midwayusa.com/

Jonathon I have used them quite a bit and have always been happy with the results.

YooperDog I wish I had have gone ahead & got into reloading 40 years ago when it was a lot more affordable. I have probably thousands of .270, 30/30, 7mm-08, .243, & .45 casings to reload to. Even more shotgun shells.

I have reloaded for about 35 years and it can save you some money assuming you can find the components.
As of late, most new ammo components are going to the ammo companies. Primers and powder has been nearly impossible to find through normal retail channels.

Last night, the shelves at the Omaha Scheel’s store were full of handgun ammo and quite a lot of rifle ammo, but the prices are still high. White box Winchester FMJ 9mm ammo was 43 cents/ round. Winchester .223 white box FMJ ammo was 80 cents/round.

There was some non-reloadable aluminum cased 9mm ammo being sold for 30 cents/round

There were no primers and limited smokeless powder on the shelves.

I have used Midway USA in the past. I found a web site called “AMMOSEEK” it’s the best in my opinion these days to find out who has what, and at what prices. It’s simple to use. Enter caliber, grain of bullet, etc. it will bring up what stores have in stock, and prices are shown cheapest to most expensive. This site is great for handgun, and shotgun ammo as well.

Jonathon there are several good online sources for ammo and they are definitely one of them. Right now ammo is starting to trickle back as far as availability is concerned. Prices are still high, but have come down somewhat in the past few months. I recently picked up a case of Winchester and Hornaday .223 at decent prices. I am having trouble getting Federal ammo in .45 or 5.56 or .223 for work. Im not sure why Federal is so far behind.

Jonathon you need a Hammond Game Getter for your 6.5 Creedmoor so you can harvest grouse with little noise. I haven’t missed a head shot in years. Look it up on Google.

I have purchased several items from Midway over the years, never had an issue. Still trying to find 130 gr. 270. At least I have enough to make it through this season.

Ken1261 I am starting to see more ammo showing up on shelves, just picked up 1000 rounds of 22 rimfire CCI MiniMags. Usually don’t buy large quantities but my wife has a 22 and can’t keep up with loading clips.

I stocked up on 22 rounds after the last shortage. I guess I’ll have to do the same with the 270 or buy the dies to reload them. I have the equipment to do it.

I know nowadays the components are pretty tough to find. Bullets and brass are available, but primers and powder take some searching. Like before a previous administration you had to stock up. I just didn’t think that I would have to prep for the zombie apacolypes, LOL. Stocking up on food, ammo, fuel, etc…it’s like living in the 1800’s.

Ken1261 I recommend getting the dies and reload, although I think the shortages are going to be behind us by fall of 2022. If they aren’t I would suspect other things are in play and I am not a conspiracy person.

bocephus Been thinking about it. Just need the dies, projectile and save some brass. Think I have most everything else. Set the press back up. If all else failes I can change to a different rifle and caliber.

Ken1261 I told my brothers I could reload for them this year if needed, we all shoot 30-06. They all had enough ammo for this year but it is nice to be able to have the option. I reload my own and they usually buy theirs.

I coach a youth trap shooting team here in the Buckeye state. Midway USA and the owners Larry and Brenda Potterfield are amazing people. They put millions of dollars into the youth shooting sports every year. I support them any time I can. They are hunters and competitive shooters too! Outstanding company.

I coach a youth trap shooting team here in the Buckeye state. Midway USA and the owners Larry and Brenda Potterfield are amazing people. They put millions of dollars into the youth shooting sports every year. I support them any time I can. They are hunters and competitive shooters too! Outstanding company.
