I would like to thank all that have served to make this country as great as it is and safe.

I would like to join in thanking our serviceman but I would be remised if I didn’t mention their spouse, children, sibling and parents. It is an incredible selfless gesture to serve and an equal gesture to hold down the fort (in the middle of all the uncertainties of the deployment).

Dr_Pain thats a fact. I was lucky enough to be a single young Marine. The guys and their families always had my respect and support. Being and old married guy with kids now, I can only imagine how hard it was on them.

Dr_Pain I agree, the families are a key part of our service men and women’s support group. I couldn’t imagine the worry they go through when their military people are deployed.

Bob Stehlik Grimpuppy I have been on a long weekend trip to the Smoky Mountains and out of cell range, so this is late. We lost 241 of our brothers 38 years ago in Beruit. I raised my glass Saturday night to our brothers lost that day. The “war on terrorism” started for a lot of us October 23, 1983. Semper Fi to all Devildogs reading this.
GWG8541 I also remember the day they hit the Barracks in Lebanon. I was long out of the Corps(1966-1970) but as we know Marines are Brothers forever. “All Gave Some…Some Gave All…” I Salute you and raise a glass. RIP Semper Fi

A couple others that are personal for me, as they happened while I was in the Corps. Colonel William Higgins. He was abducted by Hezboula in Beirut and hanged on July 31, 1989. This happened while I was in boot camp. I remember my drill instructors vividly pissed when it happened.
The other is PFC Domingo Arroyo. He was the first Marine killed in Somalia. I was also in Somalia at the time. The entire humanitarian effort changed that night.

Grimpuppy I remember them well. Colonel higgins would still be alive if we would have taken care of Hezbula after the bombing of the barracks. The same for the 1st Marine killed in 1984, Corporal Ed Gargano. Ed was a friend and great Marine. As a nation, we did not pay attention when all of this was going on because it didn’t happen to anyone in the US at the time. It took 911 for that to change. We should have paid better attention in the early 80s and I’m afraid we are going back to burying our head in the sand. Semper Fi

Wish politicians would get out of the way and let our, greatest military in the world ,do there job.

Grimpuppy Somalia is one of many shiezer holes out there that the US lost lives. Remember those that gave all.
