We lost 241 of our brothers 38 years ago in Beruit. I raised my glass Saturday night to our brothers lost that day. The “war on terrorism” started for a lot of us October 23, 1983. Semper Fi to all Devildogs reading this.

Colonel higgins would still be alive if we would have taken care of Hezbula after the bombing of the barracks. The same for the 1st Marine killed in 1984, Corporal Ed Gargano. Ed was a friend and great Marine. As a nation, we did not pay attention when all of this was going on because it didn’t happen to anyone in the US at the time. It took 911 for that to change. We should have paid better attention in the early 80s and I’m afraid we are going back to burying our head in the sand. Semper Fi

Colonel William Higgins. He was abducted by Hezboula in Beirut and hanged on July 31, 1989. This happened while I was in boot camp. I remember my drill instructors vividly pissed when it happened.

The other is PFC Domingo Arroyo. He was the first Marine killed in Somalia. I was also in Somalia at the time. The entire humanitarian effort changed that night.
