So, I have been looking to get a pk100 to try for quite a while and even close to ordering a couple times this year. Last time I checked they were “sold out” . Now I get on to check and it is like $500 more and that is turning me off from buying one right now and really disappointed.
With that being said, does anyone know of another smoker to check out that is comparable to the pk100 ? Help me find some options.

It may not have the temp range though and the open flame takes a lot of attention.

Smokeshack is probably the most similar alternative.

RafterW never heard of KBQ. I have the smaller smokeshack already. I like the low temps on the pk100 to be able to do bacon, jerky, sticks, and cheese better.

@randie-nulph you just clarified it for yourself in your comment, NOTHING will compare to the PK100 besides a bigger model. And if $500 is throwing you off you definitely dont want to see the price of bigger models. I do get your reluctance though as i am in the same boat of purchasing a 2022 Ford F250, i just have a hard time spending $65,000 when it should be no more than $40,000

twilliams I would not or could not. Bought a new one last year, but changed to Dodge after over 45 years of driving Chevrolet. So far, I am happy with it. However, the local dealers are not happy with me. I made the decision to travel to Kernersville, NC. since we had to do an inspection near there & could then go by & take delivery on the truck. Folks were all real nice & helpful. But, the big deal was I saved over $20k if I am not mistaken, relative to local prices. I tried & tried for over a year to give the local dealerships every opportunity, but Kernersville stepped right up to the plate.

calldoctoday if I could save $20K I would fly to pick one up as well in a heartbeat. I don’t care about staying local if they are just gonna gouge for their benefits. Obviously they don’t care about nothing but a sale and money in their own pockets. That’s business, not family or friendships

twilliams Same here, but I tried at least to they cannot say I did not give them a chance & the opportunity. I don’t know if Kernersville sells Ford or not. However, there prices & service helped me decide to switch to Dodge. You might want to look them up. A lady named Mary helped us a lot as well as some others.

twilliams Wow, maybe they have changed. I am shocked or maybe it is a regional thing where they are all just ridiculous around here, along with stock being limited so they want to sell you some really over built models that are too fancy along with no diesel unless it is a $65,000.00 - $70,000 truck half the time.

twilliams I just looked too. Wow, I don’t know what happened to them. Their inventory looks way down though & a lot of the trucks were only next year & this year, so it looks like they have sold everything but the latest. I saw the prices too. Believe me, I paid no where near that much, not even close, & could not afford it if I had to. That is crazy. I hope you are able to find something right. You would think by nearly October you would be able to. I got mine on September 1st of last year & it was perfect for the most part as I indicated. I don’t know if you talk to them if they might have something else or not. There used to be another one like them in Hempstead, Texas. However, I understand they went out of business. My brother said a NFL football player bought them out & drove the business into the ground with debt. Wishing you the very best.

calldoctoday yeah it’s like this all over, lack of vehicles, high demand so prices are above the bar. That’s ok, I’m not ordering til July 2022. If the market don’t settle down by then, I will just put all my money to paying off my house. It doesn’t look like it’s gonna get better anytime soon since they are shutting down the GM plants and cutting way back on Ford. Haven’t heard what Stellantis (Dodge,Chrysler,RAM) is planning yet due to these chip shortages. Rumor has it Ford is doing a body redesign for 2023, that’s making me nervous since I like the design they currently have, just wish the options were different

Do you really find yourself having to stoke the firebox every 30 minutes? That is also what amazing ribs claims.

RafterW the coal bed on it needs tended at least every 30 min. In my opinion that is one of its biggest drawbacks. The top end temp is probably the range issue they are discussing. I think it can get into the low 300s, but ive never needed to go there when smoking. I love it for smoking sausage because i can easily start my drying cycle around 100 degrees.

As others have mentioned, building your own electric smoker is a viable option for many people.

The PK100 is just an insulated cabinet, an electric heat source with controls, and air controls. The smoke source is low tech, just a pan of chips on the heat source.

Where the PK100 shines (literally) is the nice SS construction. Its possible to find an insulated SS cabinet to make your own smoker, but it can take some time. I used a hospital blanket warmer to make mine.
