What did everyone cook today?

JoeB I went “in country” during Tet (Feb) 1968. We still had the M-14. They had enough weight to them we would exercise with them.
Bob Stehlik 68-69 tet and 4 more, nobody talked about much or was reported. Started with the M-14 but i really liked the Blooper, M-79 grenade launcher. 5 Bronze stars on the Vietnam Service Medal. Was told to change it to a cluster but i never did

Ham and eggs… RVN 68-69, we were enjoying c’s that were packed 1946. The green color of the cans was migrating into the eggs. When hungry you’ll eat just about anything with calories. This was the original Green eggs and Ham. The Cigarettes had a prominent effervescent turquoise mold patina. Could never get the LREP’s to hydrate. BTY, i was issued one of the 1st M16’s, not yet an A1. Colt made the barrel and receiver (shiny chrome bolt), and the stock was made by Mattel, the Toy Manufacturing Company.

Bob Stehlik p38 is so strong can be used to pop the lids on gl. paint cans. I also have a p51 for B rations… Big Boy!

JoeB I have more than a few of those around, even had C-rats for time. The pound cake and canned fruit were great for bartering back in the day.

By the way, I was lucky enough to start my Marine Corps enlistment with C-rats, but we ended with MRE’s. While both had their good and bad points. I definitely preferred the C-rats.

GWG8541 Yep. We sure did refer to them as a John Wayne (the original multi-function tool). Thanks for jogging an Old Corp Marine’s memory.

JoeB Bob Stehlik I didn’t have any experience with the M-79 or M-14 a bit before my time. The M-16, M-203 & 50 cal were what I was trained on. I did enjoy the 203 grenade launcher, watching them travel to their target was pretty crazy. Being in the AF in the States all my targets back then we’re the non-lethal kind. A lot of munitions fired in the heat of training. Five bronze stars!!! Holy Benwah!!! Even the AF doesn’t just give those away, you definitely earn them. My last remaining uncle doesn’t talk much about being there, had a little bit of a rough patch after he got back, but his mom got his head back on straight. Salute brothers

GWG8541 JoeB I remember them being called both a John Wayne and P-38. Learned never to carry them in my pockets without being secured to many puncture wounds from a floppy one. I usually traded for what I didn’t want or what I figured I could roll over something better down the road or for poker fodder.
