Well this post has been quiet for way to long, did everyone stop drinking? PapaSop with the Holidays right around the corner anything new out on the market that we need to be on the lookout for?

Rather surprised myself that this topic hasn’t popped up in a couple months. The way business is going I’m pretty sure no one, I repeat no one has stopped drinking! The last couple weeks is what I’d call normal but that’s after record weeks ever since this Covid crap started back in March.New products… Wow, wouldn’t even know where to start. Averaging 5-15 new products a week. I know bourbons have been a big topic here. A few recent that have been flying out of the warehouse.
Old Elk, Very Old St Nick, Drop Tine and Devils River.
Everything by Ole Smoky Distillers… mostly flavored products.
I could go on and on… BTW, still drinking my MGD… Yeah, I know.

PapaSop My 21 year old son just started working at one of the high end liquor stores here in ROC and gets to peak at the boss’s stash in the back for his VIP’s. They trained him when anyone calls asking for allocated bottles to just say NO we don’t get any! But the boss had a football party at his house and was raffling off bottles and he came home with some Weller 107! Good boy!!! I’ve been working my way through the 4 roses line.

PapaSop My 21 year old son just started working at one of the high end liquor stores here in ROC and gets to peak at the boss’s stash in the back for his VIP’s. They trained him when anyone calls asking for allocated bottles to just say NO we don’t get any! But the boss had a football party at his house and was raffling off bottles and he came home with some Weller 107! Good boy!!! I’ve been working my way through the 4 roses line.
Parksider The bourbon world is so weird lately. In Ohio, I can get all the Weller Reserve ($25) and Weller Antique 107($49) I want. People in other states are paying up to $200 a bottle for the same stuff. It’s a great pour. But, won’t spend that much on it because there’s enough of others to taste. I won a Weller 12 and Weller CYPD in local auctions. But, have many other types of bourbon to choose from to keep the taste buds very happy. When I won the two Wellers, was offered $250 for each and turned them down because I like to share “rare” one’s (aka: special) with other bourbon buds/lifetime friends in and out of the area. That means more than the dollars. Just have some fun my foody buds.

zbigjeff I can get the Antique and Reserve for those prices but availability is few and far between. I’d buy it by the case if I could find it

I like them, and I’m not likely to turn any of them down, but I can live without them for long periods of time (and I surely am not going to pay what many of them are going for these days). When it comes to bourbon whiskey, I tend to prefer something with barley and rye and little (or no) wheat. That’s more my style. In fact, if I had to spend the rest of my life drinking only Four Roses (even just the yellow label) Jim Beam (even just the white label), or Evan Williams (especially the bottled-in-bond) as the only bourbons I could have for the rest of my life, I’d live a mighty fine life.
In fact, I tend to prefer rye whiskey over bourbon. While a handful of folks have gotten all worked up about a handful of rye whiskeys, prices and availability otherwise haven’t been terribly affected by hype. Regarding Sazerac, I’ve always liked it, but my mind boggles at why it suddenly became so expensive and hard to find. Bizarre.
In fact, I’ve preferred Scotch whisky over bourbon for several years, now. With limited exceptions that mostly are in the $200+ bottle family (that I want little or no part of), prices have been more affected by tariffs than hype. Yeah, I’ve lost a couple age statement favorites (like Laphroaig 18), and Highland Park isn’t what it used to be, but I’m quite happy with what’s around.

TexLaw I Agree, I’m enjoying the spiciness of ryes, some over 90% rye.

We’re allocated 44cs a month for the 10yr Eagle Rare. They all ship as backorders. Next months allocation is already sold and so on and so on every month. Same with Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s, E.H. Taylor etc. I’ll be stunned if we get any Van Winkle this year! -

TexLaw It’s fantastic that you found your “sweet spot”. My stash includes the gamut from wheateds to high rye bourbons, Irish, rye and barley whiskeys, a number of low to high end scotches, and and and. It’s nice that due to the stash, I will not usually purchase overpriced stuff unless it’s for a very special gift. There’s tooooo much out there that’s reasonably priced, great for sitting around a fire with friends and just enjoying life. Have a great rest of your day.
