Homemade Pork roll? (Taylor Ham)
-
BobbyMac If I can find a recipe for pork roll, my wife would pretty much let me buy anything I wanted equipment wise.

Currently I have it imported from Jersey. I buy 4 or 5 pound for her every year at Christmas. If I could make it at home, I’d literally be coined a super hero. I am now on a mission. I’ll share if I find anything…DougSmokes Hahaha I can ship you as much as you want

BobbyMac Check out wedinydomowe.pl/en It is a website dedicated to home made meats and sausages. They have a pork roll forum. I have made pork roll a bunch of times following the recipe and suggestions in this forum. Tastes is very close to Taylor Ham. Cases is the other brand of pork roll in NJ. It is smoked and has a sweeter flavor. Taylor ham is tangier.
Steve Risse Thank you Steve for the input

BobbyMac Wow, there is actually a lot of material out there (non-meatgistics) for something that I hadn’t even ever heard of. Other than it being sweet I don’t see what the deal is though, anyone who knowsm(Steve Risse ?) care to fill us in?

Sorry if that site didn’t work. I tried to cut and paste the URL into my reply and I got a “spam” error message from this forum. The pork roll recipe that is discussed there originated from here http://lpoli.50webs.com/index_files/NewJerseyPorkRoll.pdf.

So I did a quick search and couldn’t find anything on making some nice tasty homemade pork roll, I guess its called taylor ham for all those people not from NJ lol.
Unless its called something else I couldn’t find a post on this forum, I did find one on a google search but I’m curious as to who else has attempted this tasty breakfast treat.
I’d love to make some venison pork roll and give it a try!
BobbyMac have you checked out deli meats on this site ?

craigrice another great resource is meatsandsausages.com. Also, Google “wedlinydomowe” to find an awesome source of information from some seriously dedicated sausage makers! It is a complimentary forum for the meatsandsausages website. It’s a Polish website that is related to Stanley and Adam Marianski. The site has an English side with contributing members throughout the world. Between these sites and Meatgistics, you will have a meat encyclopedia!

I’ve heard of this “pork roll.” And heard there it’s a debate of it being Pork roll or Taylor Ham. I will admit that I heard of it from the tv show “Jersey Shore.” Lol
@CKleist Hahahaha of course a team blue member watches that crap lol

@CKleist Oh it’s a battle field here in NJ over which is the real pork roll! North Jersey tends to root for Taylor Ham. South Jersey tends to lean toward Case’s pork roll. They are both really good, but I am a Taylor Ham fan. We did a side by side blind taste test with a bunch of friends last summer and it was 50/50.

Steve Risse I gotta go online and see if I can order some for delivery to Chicago so I can try it! Sounds like the ketchup/no ketchup on hotdogs debates here. Btw…NO ketchup is the correct way. Lol
@CKleist Love those Chicago dogs! Mustard all the way!
