Sorry for you, and that is inappropriate for them. Charcoal is packed at a specific moisture content that they are ruining. Can you be so bold as to tell them?

I have used a commercial Hobart mixer for pulled pork and it worked very well. That was for feeding several hundred folks though. Nice to know a hand mixer works, thanks.

I agree that using the KitchenAid grinder attachment to also stuff sausages just doesn’t work except for perhaps small limited usage. I have a stuffer, but have found that some new meat grinders can also be used to stuff sausages. My new grinder works so much better than the KitchenAid attachment approach; it is a great, and fast grinder. I grind and stuff by myself so I also bought a foot control switch that lets me stuff pretty quickly and well without getting out my devoted stuffer.

My favorite for smoking was Wicked Good Competition Blend. However it hasn’t been available for years. Their replacement is Weekend Warrior, which I like. I like Royal Oak too, which is usually available at WalMart. I have tried the Kamado Joe, which is pretty good too. I am looking for long burn times and little ash, and I have found these to do well. I certainly have not tried them all, by any means. I have found these to meet my needs, but there are plenty of others that I’m sure would be just as good. As you said: each to his or her own.

Glad you folks found it useful! I am not aware of anyplace that is more comprehensive than this site. Unfortunately my favorite lump for smoking in my clay Imperial Kamado (the Big Green Egg is a ceramic version of the old Imperial Kamado) is no longer available, but there are lots of good charcoals out there.

I think everyone has an idea about which lump is their favorite. There is, however, one guy called the naked whiz who has, for many years, Impartially tested different brands, showing pictures of bag contents, rating brands, and listing other users ratings. He has even tested Cowboy more than once. If you want an interesting look at his lump charcoal database, give naked whiz a try.

Thank you, Jonathan. Would there be alternatives such as Zoom that might work for the informative sessions and then a simple sign up at Walton’s? Maybe separating the two: the live stream and the entry, would work? I am not being critical of YouTube, but I don’t think that it was designed to efficiently do these two tasks simultaneously, and it is just so darned frustrating. They wanted private information to proceed with the entry process (birthdate) which is highly unusual and certainly unnecessary. I imagine the reason is for marketing other products. Really, does Walton’s care if I am 31 or 51? Other sites do, so my name and birthdate can be sold to marketers. Is that what Walton’s wants?
So back to my original point, isn’t it possible to find a better way, rather than just deferring to a process, Youtube, that “had problems”? I think those problems reflect unnecessarily and badly on Walton’s

Thank you YoopeeDog. I didn’t have any problem connecting either. For me, connectivity wasn’t the issue; the primary issue was the difficulty in entering the giveaway, nor the website. The link worked great for me to enter the website discussion. Registration (entering) for the giveaway was the problem. And clearly I am not the only one who had this issue. This situation also meant that several users who wanted to participate in the main event spent all, our time in frustration trying to use the website function of registering for the giveaway. It is so great that Jonathan and the crew even have the giveaway lottery, So for that, kudos to Walton’s! And congratulations to the winners!
Some of us just had unnecessary frustration, and I don’t think that Is what Walton’s would have wanted.

I agree with Little Baby Teddy that trying to enter to win detracted from trying to enjoy the main event. I spent all my time trying to register and failed. I’m not a complete bumbler when it comes to computers (except to my son who is a computer programmer with a Computer Science Masters degree). Nonetheless I was extremely disappointed in trying to register on 2 different devices and found that I couldn’t do it. Oh well, so it goes. I’ll just quit trying, which will help the odds for all of the rest of you

I have used a BBQ Guru set up for smoking meats in my Imperial Kamado and BGE for 25 years or so. Recently replaced it with a Signals from ThermoWorks when they had a great sale. Like the T-pen, it has been a winner, again in my opinion. I’m sure there are other instant read thermometers that are very good too. To each their own!

I have used Thermopens, bought for others as gifts, and borrowed other therms from lots of people. I am a strong advocate of Thermopens. Basically the pros use them for a good reason, in my opinion.
