Thanks to all in the Walton’s shipping department! I just received my latest order from Walton’s via UPS without damage. I asked that they package it carefully since it contained a glass item and UPS had a bad habit of damaging every box Walton’s ships to me. They had fragile tags on every corner as well as telling then which side was up. Seems like someone at UPS can read. Again many thanks to those behind the scenes in the shipping department who make things happen.

johnsbrewhouse that’s great. I’m pretty lucky I have a really good local UPS guy but we can’t control what happens on the semi trailers in transport. Glad Waltons could put all the warning stickers in for you.

I cannot complain either we had the same UPS guy for 35 years and he was the best, but he retired and the new guy seems to trying to follow in his foot steps. USPS, my employer, well right now and “F” grade would be generous to say the least.

It’s not just UPS. Seems like every package I order has a torn side or smashed top. So far nothing damaged. They probably have that new box crusher 2000. I hear it stays the contents before crushing the box

johnsbrewhouse I will share this with our shipping manager. We are seeing some issues with UPS in certain regions, for anyone who is interested search through som of Joe Hell posts about it. Our shipping department does a great job (in my mind at least) trying to ensure that some damage to the box won’t mean the order is damaged but obviously, we rely on the shipping companies to actually handle the package.

mrobisr It seems to be somewhere ether in Aurora, CO or Salt Lake City where they change trailer where the damage happens. That’s where the transfers happen. My local guys are great, they know I support them.

Jonathon Your packages to the NW change trailers at least twice getting to most locations. It changes the first time in Aurora, Co then in Salt Lake City. You can see it on the tracking. The packages will sit in both locations for over a day without moving. Both cities have large distribution centers located on Interstates. This might give your shipping manager something to go to UPS about when talking damaged packages. Joe Hell is 225 miles SE of me and his packages come through SLC as well.

Jonathon I think maybe Bret and Kurt should go back out on the road and hand deliver some of these packages, they could make more memories. LOL

Just to chime in. Not so much of a dent coming from anything I’ve ordered from Waltons coming up my way. All have been UPS.

PapaSop I had to send back 2 of the Stainless Steel tables because they came scratched and dented. The third came the same way. I spoke to customer service and kept the last table with dents, since it was the best looking of the 3 recieved. I did ask Walton’s CS if the last one could be placed in another box or padding added since the box the table came in had no packing materials between the top of the table and the cardboard. I was told that it would be done, but it never happened and was dented by UPS like the first 2. So CS and I came to an agreement and they knocked 10% off and I kept the table. Other packages have also showed up pretty beat up, but the only thing that was damaged was some jars of Terrapin Ridge Farms jams. They were placed in the box with other items with no packing material and got beat up enough that the seals were broke and jam was leaking.
Just from the posts I’ve seen in the last year, UPS has to be costing Walton’s some cash, because Walton’s has always taken care of the problems.

Somewhere between me and you things really go to heck. 75% of the packages we get from different places are banged up. Jonathon , remember the grinder I won that looked like it was air dropped onto my deck, well that looked great compared to the deep fryer I got from cabelas for my brother, and their customer service was bad.

GWG8541 I ordered Pepper Jam and the shipping department did a fantastic job protecting that jar. UPS had no chance of damaging it even if they bounced the box off the back of the truck. Half the box was taken up by the Pepper Jam jar wrapping.

Shipping options is something we have been working on. unfortunately, a lot of things we were looking at around 2019 got shut down for a few reasons. 1 we went crazy and needed all hands on deck for normal business things and 2 lots of options disappeared during the pandemic. From what I have seen it is very regional. We have customers in certain areas who love UPS and never have issues and then we have customers areas like GWG8541 where there is going to be unacceptable levels of damage far more often. We do continue to look at different shipping options.

Setting up shipping rules for the new website gave me a new understanding of all the shipping issues and challenges out there, but that is more from a rule and billing-based side of things, once you bring in the quality of the delivered product it is an ENTIRE new thing. Personally, I think our shipping department is incredibly important as it allows us to ship the same day. Amazon has spoiled all of us (100% including myself here) and I pretty much expect same-day shipping on in-stock orders. If you can’t do that, you are not going to grow.

Jonathon The biggest hindrance to anyone who ships is that most shippers have pages of exceptions that give them no responsibility when damage occurs or a package is delivered beyond its allotted time. If you have ever gone through UPS or FedEx paperwork it limits their liability so much and throws it back to the person who originated the shipment. This is one reason why Amazon has developed their own logistics system. I feel sorry for all businesses held hostage by the large shippers who just don’t care about how they handle their shipments. Walton’s does an awesome job getting packages out everyday!

Jonathon just to give you an idea of how good your shipping folks are compared to your competitors. I ordered from you and another company on Monday, didn’t want to but Walton’s does not stock exactly what I wanted. I’ll get your package tomorrow and the other company is still processing the order, so it will be next week. This is the normal time for Walton’s and also the normal for the other guys, so thanks.

Just to chime in. Not so much of a dent coming from anything I’ve ordered from Waltons coming up my way. All have been UPS.

Somewhere between me and you things really go to heck. 75% of the packages we get from different places are banged up. Jonathon , remember the grinder I won that looked like it was air dropped onto my deck, well that looked great compared to the deep fryer I got from cabelas for my brother, and their customer service was bad.

This is the normal time for Walton’s and also the normal for the other guys, so thanks.

mrobisr There is one other company i order processing stuff from, i live 1 1/2 hours from their business and it takes a week and a half to get to my door. Typically i can order sunday night from waltons and it will be in lower Wisconsin on wednesday. Only exception is when for some odd reason it is shipped USPS then it is four days. That must be the case for my package i am receiving tomorrow instead of today. My packages from Waltons usually show up destroyed. The last one was the worst out of any, bottom of side ripped out then clear taped to fix. Ripped open a bag of seasoning and lost my natural tubed sheep casings. The replacement package showed up with not even a wrinkle or dent in the box. A big thanks to Waltons for replacements. We will see how tomorrow’s package will show up.

As far as Wisconsin, guess I must be in the sweet spot. Tim, that is insane!
