Equipment Maintenance

I have a 30 pound F. Dick stuffer. While I keep it clean, does anyone know about the gear box? Is this a sealed unit, or should it be dismantled and repacked with lubricant? Don’t really want extra work, but also want to care for a beautiful piece of equipment. Thanks

Okay, it censored the name of the company. I guess everyone knows what the name is. d.i.c.k.

Chef Do you have a closed gearbox? I assume so, can you access the gearbox? If they are greased you would need to get food grade type grease if you want to regressed. Unless you have had some serious use on it, or grease contamination I don’t know why you would need to do that. When I had to rebuild my KitchenAid the gearbox was cleaned out to remove broken gear parts and I hade to regressed putting in new gears. A 30lb. F. Dick is a nice stuffer.

I guess I should have said, F. Richard. LOL

I like that We’ll just call it F. Richard…
It is closed, but is accessible. I sense no problem, was just thinking a good preventive maintenance. Also had to do a couple of Kitchen Aid products, several week components, which I had to service. Not near like stuff made in the 70’s.

LOL sometimes the censor thing makes no sense but we are a family-friendly site, or try to be. I’m not sure on that type of stuffer but I am assuming it works similarly to ours and with ours I would reapply some lubricant once or twice a year depending on how often you use it. Food Grade Grease is the best but you need the grease gun for that so the Lubrifilm will work.
