Jonathon doh! It’s a shame about your gear! My lab puppy got in my closet last week and chewed up a headlamp, and my binocular covers… By the time I found it, too late to even scold the puppy, she wouldn’t remember. So the only recourse is letting out some angst here! I’m totally with you on this, grrrr that devildog!
Dave in AZ Walk the dog by the destruction, if they show signs of knowing they did wrong, you can get a correction in. This especially works as they get older, they do know when they have done wrong, just look at their reaction when they get close to where the damage occurred.

No no no, Riggins is NOT the hero of this story! Trust me, I am sure he didn’t swallow any of it and have been monitoring his “leavings” and none of it is embedded in his mouth. Checking that was fun, I have never done anything to this dog but if I try to grab his paws or hold him down it is WW3 right away. No build-up, just going full crazy mode. He was abused pretty badly before we got him though, so I don’t try to win those battles very often, it isn’t worth putting him through it.
When I wanted to do doggy DNA thing with him I needed to put a qtip in his mouth for 60 seconds. I started laughing as soon as I read the directions because I knew that wouldn’t work. Now, Riggins has seen me walk around with a Q-tip plenty of times, but he somehow knew this one was for him and just immediately ran away, so I found him on the bed and tried it and he barked at me. This dog almost never barks and has never barked at me aside from that one time. I eventually just got some peanut butter and put it on a spoon and held it out of reach and put the qtip underneath his mouth so the drool would collect on it. Improvise, adapt, overcome!

Obviously it wasn’t an “Ugly Stick” as they are indestructible! -

kyle keep in mind that Marines are great at what we call Sea Stories. In other words they start with “once upon a time” or “you ain’t gonna belive this s@#*”. In the case of the Battle of Belleau Woods happened June 1918, and was the real deal. If memory serves me correct, it was 1st Battalion 6th Marine regiment 1/6.
The battle was such a hard-won success it led General Pershing (United States Army) to say, “The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle!” and that “the Battle of Belleau Wood was for the U.S. the biggest battle since Appomattox and the most considerable engagement American troops had ever had with a foreign enemy.” If you like military history, it was one of those lopsided battles that the Germans should have easily won. -
I’m fairly sure Riggins was created in a laboratory in hell with the express and sole purpose of ruining my life and happiness.Jonathon that sucks! Yeah, my dogs have wrecked some pretty expensive stuff!

When my lab Beta was 8 months old, she found my shooting bag with a box of 12 gauges shells in it. She took the box of shells back to the porch and proceeded to mangle about half of them and scatter them around the yard. Completely my fault for leaving the bag where knucklehead could find them.
Thank God she grew out of that destructive stage.

Yeah Brutus we got as a puppy and we can do anything to that dog OTHER than baths, he HATES water no matter what we do. He also growls when we do things he likes like sometimes I’ll rub his ears and he will just start growling but he is obviously happy about it. The dog berries his head between my knees and will stay there forever if I scratch his ears. He doesn’t like strangers which I secretly love cause I think if anyone ever came in when I wasn’t there and went after my wife they’d have 190 lb unfriendly mastiff to deal with! We tried to see what he would do if someone was attacking my wife so I was play punching her while she fake cried…he jumped in and was aggressively pawing her too, like jumped in to help me attack her! Im his person, he loves my wife and my neighbors but I am the only one he listen too when I call for him.
Riggins is a great dog, just separation anxiety makes it hard to ever relax, always worried about what he is doing. The dog chews huge holes in my solid wood door!
