My day even though it it semiretired,

You’d think it is a laid back time, right? WELL NO!

It is loaded with too many side interests!

How can I keep up with the Walton’s community?

I try to get my “Unread” down to at least a -20 but I cannot keep up!??? Any thoughts on how?

I have multiple interests in boating, fishing, smoking meats, sausages, curing meats and raising tomatoes.

@dennyo You’ll just be like me & the rest of us all, the longer I keep trying, the further behind I get. Kind of like ol Tennessee Ernie Ford, another day older & deeper in debt. Except we don’t our souls to the company store, just the all the things we gotta do & more…

@dennyo brother, I’m right there with you. I was retired and working part time, but started full time again this year. I told my wife about a month into it that my job keeps getting in the way of my life. Part of my retirement gift to myself was purchasing a 5th wheel camper to travel in the summer when my wife is not teaching. When I briefly retired from my last occupation I remembered thinking “how did I have time to work”. If you figure out the answer to that question, please let me know.

GWG8541 Why did you go back to full time?
Garry Tarpley I’m seriously considering it more and more every day!

@dennyo well part of it is probably stupidity. However, the year I retired our pension system announced they would no longer be providing health care as part of our retirement plan. No body was exempt including previous retirees. I have a little while before I hit 65. So the short answer is Healthcare which is ironic since I now work in the healthcare industry. I have a great job with a lot of flexibility so its not bad, but I was getting used to every day being a Saturday and working part time. With the current economy, it is also nice to try and get a little more ahead.

I retired 2 years ago in January but I live in upstate New York so all winter I have lots of time but in the summer a job would interfere with my fishing in the spring about march I start all my garden seeds so that takes a lot of time and I did all this while being on the road so I really don’t no how I had time to work

I’ve been throwing around the idea of when I retire to purchase a food truck and make rounds to companies for their lunch breaks. Burgers, hot dogs, brats, pulled pork sandwiches, ice cream, chips and so on. Just don’t know what would have to be done for permits and such. I got awhile before I retire so I got time.

gus4416 I am tried of the snow and cold, it has been winter since Nov. Once the snow is gone road construction kicks in.

When I worked full-time I think the set schedule sort of kept things between the lines. Once I retired my time and days got chopped up and trying to efficiently use the time became definitely more challenging. My family, hobbys, interests and commitments/volunteering all become a juggling contest. I am still in the fight, but losing ground.

@dennyo Don’t even get me started. Got mad, settled down, got mad again, finally had to move on & chalk it up to providence or the lack thereof in these modern days & times.

I’d rather be sit’in in a boat and thinking about God,
Than sit’n in church and thinking about fish’in!

@dennyo If that is they way you want to put it, yes, I got corn poned too. Just trying to move on now for the past just about 10 years doing my own thing & making every effort to do a good job for my customers & give them the very best. It does not pay quite as well, but feels much better. I just cannot afford to retire now with those changes & out the door just before 55. Now some days I don’t know if I ever want to retire & some days I think I should if I can get my younger son completely set up for the future with the business. There is plenty to do around the place that I am way behind on, so I would not be sitting on my laurels. The amazing thing to me is that I used to work at least an 8 hour day & usually much, much more, every day, build or restore our own homes, keep the garden & preserve all we needed, butcher animals & hunt, sometimes work a second or third job, & go to school on some nights or weekends & still have energy left to give. Now, I can some days hardly do one thing, & getting further & further behind my the day. That is depressing just writing it.

calldoctoday I feel your pain. I just learned to accept the fact that I will be as productive as I can everyday, but also learn to enjoy everyday. Take time to spell the roses as they say
