House got hit about 2:00 AM in 2008. By luck I saw a hint of smoke through a plumbing plumbing pipe hole.
Immediately Called the fire dept. and cleared the house still had $150,000 worth of damage
Fire had started in the basement through the electrical wiring

Lake place has been struck twice, once we weren’t there and luckily the neighbors saw it and called fire department, other time we were there and just had to fix a little wiring and outlets.

I know this is not meat related but wanted to share a cool photo with everyone interested. We had a small storm blow through the other night and the thunder from this bolt of lightning shook our cement plant buildings worse than anything I’ve felt in my 15 years here. If you look at the bottom left corner you’ll see our plant. It’s 6 stories high.

twilliams Storms never used to bother me . In fact I used to like watching them. But getting hit hurt! My arms and shoulders hurt for 2 days.I was leaning against my steel shop when it hit the house so I just got what came though the ground.Still knocked me about 6 ft

RON PARRISH I was 8 years old and the big walnut at the immediate rear corner of the house got nailed. Threw bark 100’ out to the road and tree was on fire. Loudest boom I’ve ever heard. Dropped me to my knees instantly. Super impressive on the power it creates

PapaSop I too hope he gets some recognition. But I don’t even hear any of the local people talking about it. I show it to about everyone I meet. Most just act like it’s no big deal. That’s why I started not to post it on here. I thought it was amazing. I’m glad some of enjoyed it or I would have felt stupid.

craigrice In my previous life flying in South/Central America’s and Carribean you could watch the cloud to cloud lightening move across the sky, move along the towering cumulus as they build skyward as you pick a safe path while trying to keep your distance.

Several years ago I was fishing from a boat with my family in open water on Merit reservoir in the Nebraska Sandhills. We could hear some thunder in the distance and were preparing to pull anchor and get off the water.

About that time I notice my daughters long black hair was sticking straight out in all directions from the static electrical charge that had accumulated in the air over the water. It was the strangest and scariest thing I had ever seen since I knew how much voltage it took to cause someone’s hair to stand up like that.

I fired up the engine and gunned it to the nearest shoreline we could reach and got everyone on shore till we felt safe.

I think back to how badly that could have ended. Lightning can do really odd and spectacular things.

Watched a spectacular lightning show in West Texas last weekend while dove hunting. We watched it from our trucks, once it passed the birds started moving again.
