Any ideas if this is a badger den?

Best way to find out is to stick you arm in there, wiggle your fingers and wait for the bite. Once it’s latched on, pull your arm out and see what it is.

So, I learned that Kansas has badgers and I was wondering if anyone knew what a badger den looked like? Dogs did NOT want to leave this area and Brutus was acting like a he was.nervous and Wiggins was being unusually aggressive while we were near it. Can’t think of any other small den animals that would have them acting like that? Probably just bunnies and I have weird.dogs.
Jonathon well they do have a technique called noodling if you really want to find out what it is

Looks like it could be. We have lots of badgers up here in North Dakota.

Yeah, they were acting really odd around it but Riggins will go ballistic if he sees any wild animal, this time he was aggressive though and Brutus, despite pushing 200 lb is a coward and his tail was tucked between his legs. Not big enough for a coyote den really and the only other burrowing predator I know of around here is a bagder. Maybe it was a skunk but I didn’t smell anything. Thanks guys, I will put on a pair of hexarmour NXT gloves and go noodling!

Jonathon I would lean towards a skunk but it could be a badger the holes look pretty similar. I have noticed that badgers tend to throw dirt further than skunks but that’s not always a quarentee. Is it near any water or in the middle of nowhere?

If there are signs of fresh digging, I would guess a badger and the opening size is about right. Badger’s are pretty aggressive diggers.

At least here in wisconsin coyote and wolves are digging dens to have pumps. A coyote den is similar in size to badgers. Put some loose sand outside the hole and check back for tracks

Jonathon it could be one of many critters already mentioned in this post, including a ground hog. Sounds like a job for a trail camera. Let us know when you find out.

Jonathon I think either a badger or an armadillo. The dens look very similar. Drive a t post and put up a trail camera then we’ll all know.

Prairie dogs are community open grassland animals, there would probably be more holes

Prairie dog holes have dirt around hole going nearly straight down first couple of feet and there will be more than just one
