Old seasoning

Jonathan Austin hey guys i bought some seasoning last year around this time. Never had a chance to use it up. Now that i have venny grind i have the opportunity. However it is now hard as a rock even though it says best by 2021, i can break it up however my question is will it change the flavor at all? I want it to taste as fresh as brand new seasoning. If it will change it i will just throw it out and order fresh. Thoughts?

twilliams Sometimes brown sugar does this if kept around awhile. A trick my mother taught me is to put a slice of bread in with it for a few days in a container. Not sure it will work with your seasonings or not, but always works with brown sugar.

twilliams I don’t think it will have much effect on the flavor. You could try vacuum sealing it next time. I think its probably just an issue with it absorbing moisture.

twilliams I don’t think it should affect the taste, like others have said it could be brown sugar in the seasoning. I’d toss it in a food processor to break it up.

twilliams It wont effect the taste at all. There are a few things to do, breaking it up manually is the best. You can put it in a microwave for a few seconds (i think like 15) with a glass of water in there too but that will only loosen it up temporarily, once it hardens back up it will get HARD. I’d break it up and then put it through a blender. Can I ask what seasoning it was?
