I have been off the grid for five days, best break I have had in awhile. No news, tv, radio, ect…

That was my second thought, but wondered if I missed something.

YooperDog Twice a year, my wife and I unplug for a weekend. On phone, email, TV, just spending time with each other and catching up on some reading.

YooperDog Their pitch was that the day after, Americans all joined together, understanding we were vulnerable to attack, Americans supported each other, and they want to spread the message that we can once again do just that. We may all be different, but we are all Americans.

Chef Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

YooperDog Tell me. It was only yesterday, 36 years ago, that I picked up my son for the hospital. It was 75 miles away from where I lived, and it had snowed and iced up. Yep feels like only yesterday…

Chef I think that we may be close in decades behind us. As those years pass you realize how fast 365 days can pass and how valuable time really is.

Im wondering how long it took people to go from 9/12 back to normal everday hussle and bussle. Back to everday selfishness. Back to the way this crazy world runs. I often wonder when i see a post( only on 9/11) of #NEVERFORGET when it will actually be forgotten. Its gonna happen. It already has to a certain degree. To my knowledge they are not teaching this event in schools of history classes like they do of past wars and presidencies. Eventually we will all die off and wont have the story to tell.

twilliams Unfortunately I agree with you. I have seen what the lack of history in our education system has wrought. Talking with young men and women serving not even knowing much less understanding their country’s history. I have been fortunate to travel to many our past battle fields and was able to take our children to some and the cemeteries. Personally, I believe that some of our politicians and more of our media wants us to not remember what they feel is an inconvenient truth because they feel it doesn’t fit their agenda.

Chef Yep, life off the grid is fantastic for at least a short time. Time for “self” with another “self” is very rewarding. Way to go.

YooperDog I do recall that the Sunday after 9/11 was the greatest attendance including Easter services. Sad how easy it is to forget God when not needed and how fast they call upon Him when needed. As they say, there are no atheist on death row…

YooperDog unplugging is glorious! I watched 12 strong the other day just to remind me what it was like at that time, how we ALL felt. I was in New York (upsate) and trust me you have never seen so many people being nice and helping eachother out and knowing we had woirk to do to get back to normal and protect each other. Terrible terrible tragedy but we were a better nation for a few months afterward. Then we were lied to about WMDs and that is where my trust of the government crumbled.

Jonathon good intel is based on good quality information, garbage in, garbage out. Then there is the agendas of leadership and those trying to piece together the information. With the WMDs, it would be a tough call for most on whether to err on the side of caution or ignore the information that you are provided. There were alot of poor calls during this current military engagement, many good calls, but we typically don’t hear much about those. We went there geared up and ready to deal with WMDs the best we could. What we see on the news as intel is a stretch from what is reality. I don’t trust government leaders blindly, they are human, have agenda’s and may be arrogant because of their perceived position, but we get what we elect sometimes. Trust is earned. I just did some studying about the events of Operation Market Garden and the loss of lives due to poor intel and a bit of arrogance. History has a tendency to repeat itself. Sorry about getting long winded.

Chef oh that continues, it will be an ongoing thing until May of 2021.

YooperDog Fair enough point on not hearing the good calls. I used to read a lot of CIA inspired books and one thing they always said was you always hear about our failures but you’ll never know of our successes.

Jonathon there are a lot of tough calls made with what you hope is the best info available. Some of it is a gut call. Unlike making the decision to attend a party rather than study for the test coming up. Bad decision, bad results, but you get the opportunity for a do over. It just doesn’t work that way in most of real world circumstances. I could philosophize poetic here, but I am sure that you understand.
