Metal detecter for game birds?

Just looking for info on using metal detecter when processing game birds…anyone use one and if so where do I find one…handheld??..thanks

Buckmaster I think Whites & Fisher Instruments, probably others too make a little hand-held with a wand that helps pinpoint things in the hole. That might work for you. Never in the world thought of this, just tried to be thorough & careful. I am not sure if it will pinpoint things enough though to put all your faith in it, at least not as far as locating pellets. Then, not sure how well it will work for lead shot or bismuth, but should work pretty good for steel.

Don’t know your budget but Harbor Freight sells hand held metal detection wands for less than $50. I think they even have one that is around $15. You have a pretty good idea there, I have a regular sized metal detector I may use next time I get some birds.

I purchased a small hand held unit on Ebay however it is not sensitive enough to pick up one or two bb’s so its really not worth it. Reverted back to the old way of picking thru each breast focusing on the bloodshot areas to find any stray shot. Helps to have a son that is a great shot and usually shoots for the head area. He just returned from Arkansas a few weeks ago, his group limited out every day. Lots of goose for snack sticks!!!

mfrievalt I don’t know if the others I mentioned are any more sensitive or not, probably not. I do know that you can adjust the sensitivity on mine & it is pretty sensitive, but I have never thought of using it for this sort of thing as I am still doing it the old fashioned way. On the other hand, my only worry is that it will only tell you that steel pellets are there, but not exactly where they are, so you still need to use the old fashioned method to find them.
