twilliams we sit mostly now too. My brother built two blinds but this year was too nice to put them out. We just sat outside all day in some brush. The last day was a bit cold at 15 degrees with 20 mph wind but it was doable. Was able to stay out till dark.

ND Mike yes they are. I live and hunt about 3 miles from the boarder. Around my hunting property there are 3 different packs. Years ago, we knew some were around, but now they are seen all the time. Many pets have been taking right out of peoples yards. We have a problem

kyle man I’m glad we don’t have to deal with a wolf problem. That can destroy a deer herd. Sorry to hear that.

We don’t have wolves where I live but we’re thick with coyotes. My 9lb poodle never goes out unless I have a leash on her. Some of my neighbors have had their pets come up missing. Pretty sure coyotes were involved. Feral hogs are in southern Illinois and are rapidly moving north too.

marzig20 we have lots of coyotes here also. They have carried off several of my barn cats. I take every opportunity to thin their population.

Coyote hunting in Illinois is legal year round with a general hunting license and habitat stamp except during the two deer shotgun seasons.

kyle I’m like you, spent 40 years out in the weather. Usually still hunt the first weekend with a group I’ve been hunting with for 50 years, 3 generations. We make drives through wood lots and swamps, so I am usually always moving and keep warm that way. Later in the week my brothers and I hunt on a piece of land from some enclosed stands we built, don’t feel bad about it at all.

marzig20 I will never understand Illinois. Can’t shoot coyotes during deer season, also can’t use rifles to hunt deer but you can for coyotes! I don’t see the point besides more hunters during deer season. And the cost of nonresident license….yikes.

twilliams it’s a screwy state run by the libs in Chicago. I’d move out but my house is paid for and even if I sold it I couldn’t afford to buy another one. The prices of houses in neighboring states is too high.

kyle I hear ya, I don’t sit unless it’s in my permanent shack or a pop up with heat. It’s a difference of getting cold in 3 hours and leaving or sitting sun up to sun down. A lot of people say that’s not hunting but in the end when I can sit out there from sun up to sun down not having to move or go get lunch I’m spending more hours in the woods compared to other folks. To each their own style of hunting. I have seen and shot way more deer with this method. I am looking at buying two more permanents this year for my other property. Here is the one I built a few years back. I just blacked out the inside and window framing is blacked out now too since this pic. 14D18738-6845-4092-B573-AC4B167E30D0.jpeg C6FC069C-B7E8-4D66-B1A7-602083B4308B.jpeg

twilliams Well obviously, some want to be totally uncomfortable because that’s the way it’s done. I don’t hunt. But, I would sit up there with you any day. Plus, the “hunted” can’t smell you easily. Just have fun with it.
