Dog was barking so we looked outside, we are east of Colorado Springs, spike buck, two does and a fawn in the yard, my brother wouldn’t borrow me his gun, said the neighbors wouldn’t understand.

bocephus Here’s a buck that another one of my neighbors got a pic of in his backyard. I said too bad that they’ll hear your shotgun. He just shrugged his shoulders with a grin and said well they can’t hear an arrow…

bocephus hahaha. Last weekend at our hunting cabin my wife went out to the outhouse before bed and she came back in and said I don’t know who was more scared, me or the deer I just saw. There were 3-4 deer about 20 yards from the cabin door.

I live in a small neighborhood on the edge of town that abuts acres of timber. It’s never been developed because of steep deep ravines. Mornings and evenings I see quite a few deer casually walking around through our yards. Not a care in the world because technically hunting is not allowed in city limits.

ND Mike We have ice forming up here but I won’t trust it until there is a good 4" out there. There isn’t a fish out there worth taking a cold water bath. No such thing as safe ice, be careful out there if you head out early.

YooperDog I also like at least 4 inches to go fishing. I weight 270 lbs so yeah…I also check the ice with a spud bar as I’m walking out.

ND Mike I have a B-inlaw on the ice in WI with his 6yo son with maybe 2". I have seen to many things go down under and a few folks. Rescue is always better than recovery, but the cold time becomes a bigger player. Everything is packed up and ready to go including my sped and ice picks. Safe fishing.

ND Mike I just gave away all of my ice fishing stuff to my buddy. Probably a good $800 worth. One I live a considerable amount away from any good lakes and two our southern Wisconsin winters are unpredictable for safe ice. I used to drive my truck on, it’s too unknown to do that anymore

twilliams I hate driving my truck on. I usually only do that if the ice is two feet or better. But then you have to worry about pressure ridges. Usually I just walk on. I made a smitty sled for when I have to do long walks. Makes towing it so much easier. I need a 4 wheeler…lol! I’m an idiot. I drive up to two hours away one way to fish.

ND Mike We use to drive our trucks right out to the fish house but we absolutely knew the ice thickness before we started driving trucks on it. Early we would use a four wheeler or gator to pull the ice house out when the ice was thick enough to hold them.

My buddy lives on some acreage who I was hunting with this weekend, while I was out in the blind Friday evening they had deer in the pasture by the house. When I got back he mentioned in joking fashion I should have stayed at the house and picked one off from the driveway!
