You have to use smoke powder if you want a smoke flavor. Check out the Bearded Butchers on YouTube. They did great video using these casings.

That may have been more to do with the machine, but it was a given every time.

I had never used them before when I made my first batch and filled them a bit tight. Had a couple slide out of the casings in the water bath from casing breaking at the twist and ties… They are pretty durable though.
