I went Sunday in the middle of the NFL games cause I no longer care about the NFL for some reason. The tanks are filled with water that is 93.5° F filled with epsom salts and highly filtered. The point of the Epsom salts is to let you float and to ease muscle sorness. Some people say that they have visions or hallucinations and some people say it is just calming and helps reset the mind.

Well, my mind has been badly in need of a reset for some time now, forgetting things left and right, not doing my best work and just a general fog have been plaguing me for about 9 months now. I know it was 9 months because it started during December of last year.

So, climbed in closed the door, turned the light and the ocean sounds off, and laid there. Within a few minutes I reached a state of relaxation that was refreshing and I was totally unaware of my body. A really interesting thing to have happened, I couldn’t even feel where the water was touching me. I did some breathing exercises and on huge breaths, I was able to float higher in the water, a great feeling and then on exhales I would slightly sink, not such a great feeling.

I have a severe phobia of sharks so I knew that was going to be a problem in there. It isn’t rational but of course I started seeing vaguely eye-shaped images looking at me and my brain immediately filled in the rest. Oddly, it didn’t bother me in the least and I tried to increase this, see if I could make my mind see a shark. Never happened but it was interesting.

The coolest thing was when I lost sense of direction, I was honestly unsure if I was floating verticaly or horizontaly in the water. That lasted for a few minutes until I gently bumped into a wall and that reorinetated me. Around an hour in I realized I had to use the restroom, so I climbed out, peed and got back in. It was instantly obvious that there was no way I was going to be able to calm back down and have it be anything other than an annoyance so I called it a day after 10 minutes or so.

It was a valuable experience for sure, I feel more alert this morning than normal and do seem to have some extra motivation. I think it is probably like meditation, you need to practice at it to get the full benefits. Glad you enjoyed it but I will have to live vicariously through your experience

Around here when people need to get their mind right, they go on a TANK FLOAT. Alcohol is usually involved.
Just like with a Float Tank experience, you may find that you lose your sense of direction during a Tank Float.
I can attest that they are very relaxing.

No phone or distractions, just silence and you can let your brain rest. Then the brain starts to play it’s tricks, usually on your fears or phobias, but it lets you work through them. Sounds pretty cool though.
