Don’t ask me how or when these mean little boogers showed up, but a bald faced Hornet nest about 20 feet from the smoker was unacceptable. One good thing about keeping bees is having a bee suit for these situations. I donned the bee suit after dark and went to war with them. They were not a friendly group and thank God for the bee suit. The nest now resides in a trash bag, which was sprayed and tied shut. Nature can be amazing. They built that hive since spring and concealed it well. It was about 4 feet from the corner of the house and about 5 feet off the ground in an ornamental bush. I love my honey bees, but hornets are A holes with wings and even rob and kill honey bees. So they had to go.
We call those A holes with wings. If a honeybee stings, its a one time deal and they die. Wasp, yellow jackets and hornets can sting multiple times. They will also attack honey bees and rob them. Not a fan at all.

I just always hope that that whomever they call to get them, extracts them instead of the other route. Now getting the hive out of a CMU (Block) wall is not going to be fun. We have found whole walls, in wood frame with Gypsum board or Shiplap on the inside, turned into a hive before. I wish I was doing bee keeping that I have always wanted to do & I could recover the bees & the hive myself. Never have been able to get around to it though. That is fantastic that you have the suit, very handy for more causes than one.

No picture to take as all you see (hopefully) is a hole in the ground. Those are the devil if you don’t see them when mowing & mow over them. Once you locate them though, you can typically avoid them. I used to git rid of them right away, but have held off in the past several years & try to put up with them for a while in the Summer as I heard they eat spiders, etc. & we have enough spiders I figure. The trick is to keep any visiting kiddos away from them though. You have to be on the lookout for that.

You’ll find the nest walking by it. I feel fortunate not having allergies to stings, but my wife and other family members have reactions that are life threatening to those little nasties. Hornet spray and a rock after dark takes care of the nest.
