Back in time when I raised animals we did a bit of bartering with other folks that raised other animals. We raised them mainly for folks at a agreed price and they took care of the locker plant visit. We just found somewhere in the middle the money was being made. I have no problem buying direct from the producer, the problem is with storage and consumption. We still buy in bulk, but not quite as much and more selective.

From turning the bull out with the cows to sale took about 27 months that I fed and cared for them. The “packer” would have had them for two weeks and the report I heard last week was that they were netting $900/carcass. That’s where you want to put your money!
