The guides were rusted pretty bad so had to sand blast them

All cleaned up inside and out and primer coat of paint. Hopefully muzzel loader season bring venison to try out. It will be painted and finished by then!

Just came across this cuber my stepdad had stashed in the barn years ago. Needs a lot of tlc but runs ok. I think everything is there. Has anyone ever used one?

It hade the small plate with the lard screen used a piece of plexiglass cut to the right size for stuffing until I found a large plate on-line. The guy had two and I wish I would have bought them both after I found the sight for replacement parts. Had to do a lot of cleaning but stuffed a lot of sausage after I cleaned it up.

I just don’t like the hand crank mixer I thought I would but I don’t……,I know I know but I bought them before I found this site….anyway I’d like to get a #25 mixer to hook to my grinder and I don’t think my grinder is rated for a big mixer and lem is the only one that I found that has a smaller mixer crazy price though almost $500….also I believe Walton’s and lem have the same hookup

The main complaint I read is you must be thorough and use Teflon tape on every screw-on joint
The main advantage is the price point
If you haven’t, search “best conical fermenters” list and try to filter out the Pros/Cons and what you envision vs price points. Be sure to check the dates as some can be pretty old and don’t include upgrades and newer units.

IMO another of the advantages of a conical is being able to harvest yeast and rack off the trub from the finished beer. Cleaning is definitely another advantage.

I do not own nor have I used a conical. I am still fermenting in 6.5 gallon glass carboys here.

Was thinking of getting into homebrewing and was considering one of the conical fermentation systems like the catalyst. Was curious if you’ve had any experience with these. My brother-in-law has one and he loves it. But, I do not want to limit myself in the future if I go this route. However it does seem much less clean-up and easier than siphoning off to another bucket as well as being easier to store. I don’t anticipate making any batches bigger than 5 gallons in the immediate future. Curious your thoughts.

As I start mixing I use a long handled wooden spoon to help the meat away from the sides and corners. As the protein starts to extract more you go longer between helping it. Kind of like mixing anything in a stand mixer you need to scrape the sides of the bowl now and then.
