If you Google search them you can find them cheaper. Treager doesn’t even have them in stock. Got to look good at the ones on ebay. There’s a BAC350 for $33, but the shipping is $27.00.

I found mine on E-Bay several years ago at about 2/3 the price that Traeger wanted. I also believe they had 2 different sizes. When I use mine I sometimes will slip a pan of ice cubes under the bottom shelf. This helps keep the early temps lower and later on it will add humidity if needed.

If need be I’ll prop the door open a bit. I also upgraded my controller and it helped flatten the temperature swings a bit. I also put my smoker in a shady area to keep the direct sun off of it (can make a 30-50 degree difference. In my case I use an e-z up with side panels. The wood type also will influence how hot the temps get. Hard wood like hickory, oak, & mesquite burn hotter than alder, maple or pecan.

I used to use a 2x4 to hold the lid open a little bit. That worked ok and kept the temp down to about 130 degrees when on smoke setting. Problem is, eventually the Traeger will throw an error code or just stop burning the pellets because it can’t hit the target temp of the dial.

My solution is to use the a couple racks from my Masterbuilt XL lp smoker. I used all thread in the corners with bolts to suspend the racks. Also, the all thread sticks up so that the lid does not close all the way. It holds the lid open about 1”. This keeps the heat at about 145 and the Treager doesn’t error out. The Treager also runs hotter in the very back and very front. It is where the heat comes around the heat shield. So your sticks will have about 1” on the front and back that is cooked more. The key is elevate them off the main grate and rotate them a couple times during the cook. They will cook much faster on the Treager. Usually about 3 hours and they are done. All said, they are not the quality I get from my Masterbuilt electric, but they are still pretty dang good and I haven’t had anyone refuse a second stick. There is usually a better smoke flavor from the Treager compared to the MES, since it just bombardes it with smoke.

You either need to experiment with propping the lid or just deal with the low temp being between 150-170. I highly recommend you put the sausage in before you start the grill, this way it gets the benefit of some cooking at lower temps. You will also get a better product if you find a way to get it up off the main grate, a smoking shelf or something will do.

I smoke everything on it. I really don’t follow a schedule, just put it on smoke and bring it up to the target temp and pull it when I hit my target. It hard to follow a temp schedule on a Treager, the temps swings are pretty wide. I have an older Texas Elite with a cold box attached.
