It wont be green if you are already subscribed, so your will be yellow and say unsubscribe. That and then below that is a shot of my settings, this way I get only notifications on what I am following.

Then on the settings page scroll down to email on the left handed side, and change your email setting to off. I think doing that will stop most of the emails.
